The library here is one of the more impressive that L has had the opportunity to set foot in.  The detective is in a seat with a pile of books, perched in a sort of crouch, with the book on the table in front of him.

One of the surest ways to find information is in print- if someone went through all the trouble of creating, editing, binding, printing a book, then at some point they must have believed what they were saying.  There are errors, of course, but on the whole he considers them more factually reliable than anything available on the internet.  Which he is doing without, until Matt and he have a chance to go acquire electronics.

Until then, the detective can be found reading.

Near, too, finds the library most impressive, and is slowly making his way through the contents; it would take even him a very long time to read everything there. At the moment, he is bringing back some of the many books he's brought back to his room to read to exchange for another stack.

Which is when he spots L.

Of course L will have found the library, and it doesn't surprise Near to see him there. Passing close by, Near gives him a friendly nod, but does not speak up; he's reading, after all.

"Near." The book closes. This means that the conversation is important.

"Have you been learning as many interesting things as I have, Ryuuzaki?" Oh, he catches the closed book, and is able to surmise its import, but he's scarcely going to get worked up about it.

"Certainly. The resources are vast and fascinating."

But more importantly;

"Do you realize that you howl? It is problematic."

It only takes a fraction of a second for the remark to hit home, and Near can feel his cheeks redden; of course with his coloring there's no such thing as a faint blush.

"I apologize for disturbing you."

"Do not apologize, please. Find a solution."

He lifts his thumb to his mouth, to trace his bottom lip.

"Possibly a gag?"

He raises an eyebrow at that, and finds it easier to summon bravado rather than embarassment.

"I am sure Mello would have no objection to using one on occasion. But I doubt he would wish me permanently silenced."

"And I do not object to relocating to the library occasionally, but it is most difficult to read when trying to assess whether your neighbour is participating in sexual activity or being brutally murdered."

The bluntness, so like Near's own, makes it harder to fight back his chagrin.

"Given that I have been loud without being brutally murdered, you could be forgiven for not coming to my aid if my screams ever are the result of a violent attack."

"Near, that isn't really the point."

He isn't sounding particularly angry about it, more... faintly amused and mildly frustrated.

"I don't intend to be loud, I... I admit I get rather lost in the moment and lack control."

"Perhaps it could be avoided quite so early in the day? I have no desire to intrude in any way shape or form upon your habits, but it is easier to be not at home later on."

As it was, he had an especially long breakfast. Once he figured out Near wasn't being murdered.

"Ah. That was a rather intense... interlude, yes. I at least can safely say that it was likely to be an extreme example, rather than the norm."

"Acceptable. Matt and I are going to find computers, I will be sure that mine has adequate speakers, for drowning out other such encounters later on."

It helps that his sleep schedule is sporadic, at best. He'll very seldom be woken up by them.

"I will, for my part, attempt to find a way to reduce the noise. I am sure there is some sort of spell that might be of use." He glances about the library. "There is bound to be something in one of these books. If you find something before I do, perhaps you might point it out to me."

"I will be sure to."

No need to worry about that.

"I find it nearly possible to forget that magic enters the equation."

"The longer I am here, the less alien it seems." Indeed, with all the reading he's been doing on the subject, it would be hard to forget. "It helps that I have been practicing small charms."

"I will also procure a wand, yes. It seems to be a crucial ingredient in most of the magic described." He's been reading avidly for a few hours, now.

"How are things with Mello? Emotionally."

"There is a village nearby. I was able to acquire my wand there without difficulty."

The question is unexpected, although Near does not let it register on his face. Really, being asked about his emotional well-being is stranger to him than magic.

"Mello is Mello. Difficult at times, but rewarding. A... relationship" and it is, I can't not think of it as anything but, really "is new territory entirely for me, and I am trying very hard not to misstep."

L has sort of made it his interest. He will continue to check up, not really constantly, but his finger will be kept on the metaphorical pulse of the situation.

There was a problem here at Hogwarts, and that was people didn't read enough.

Wishbone sought to change that, but he needed some help. Mainly because he doesn't have thumbs.

He HAD been looking for Michael, who as the resident librarian would be the ideal choice for this project, but he found L first.
