OOC: While the people below have signed up, this is open for anyone to enter the crazy.

So. It's Valentine's Day. Turlough had rounded up a few house elves to do his bidding. Said bidding was to set up tables with name cards, a table with food and drink (which may or may not be hexed, I couldn't decide), and a sign:

We will not be responsible for anyone fed love potions.

Because someone will.

We also will not be responsible for any actions here on in.

Turlough stood in the corner of the Great Hall, drink in hand, smirk on face as he watched people come on (or forced in by cattleprod point, in Soichiro's case.)

Gustav's level of perversion was debatable, though the nastier charges were certainly slander ((and his retranslated War of the Lions profile would be thrown at anyone who claimed otherwise)).

"Oh. Oh." He proceeded to sweep into a belated bow. The form was just as he'd worked out, timing aside. "Er. Pleasure's all mine."

"Debatable" was better than Kimura, who couldn't be more obvious unless he wore a "PERVERT" sign on his chest. He was the only teacher who'd ever made Tomo twitch.

"Of course it is! Oh, yeah." She pulled out a small wrapped box from where she'd been hiding it in her sleeve (in case of Dwight-level failure). "Happy Valentine's Day! Back home girls are supposed to give guys chocolate, so here ya go!" Chocolate Frogs, in this case, but it wasn't magicked or anything. Not like Tomo could manage that on her own anyway.

((disappearing again til late tonight or tomorrow, sorry, RL took over))

"Good of you," he said as he accepted the box, dropping the "act knightly" plan. It would be odd, he figured, to suddenly take up the knightisms after they'd already talked a while, and she didn't seem like someone who'd particularly mind lack of them anyway.

Now came the question of whether she'd mind his having nothing to hand back except, in desperate straits, his half-drunk drink. He'd deal with that when it came all the way up, and not a second before. Maybe a second later.

In the meantime, change of subject time! "So'n..." Gustav gestured toward Phoenix. "... if you don't know who you're to look for, do we watch him instead, 'til they meet up? Or something like?"

Luckily for Gustav, it wouldn't come up for another month until White Day rolled around. Tomo might do a WART strictly to demand chocolate from people.

She glanced over at Phoenix speculatively. "Guess we could for a little bit, see if they meet up." Which she would get bored with after five minutes. Tomo looked around. "Hey, that table's open," she said, pointing out an un-carded table not far away from Phoenix's. "'Course, we oughta get snacks first. Can't manage a stakeout on an empty stomach!"

"Can't very well do that," Gustav agreed, with the knowledge of experience. He wedged the box under his arm and started for the food table, finishing his drink as he went.

`Tomo followed as well, looking around at the assortment of couples curiously, and noting that more than a few looked profoundly unhappy. And then she spotted the house elves with cattle prods. "Hey, check it out!" She pointed to where they were forcing Soichiro Yagami (http://community.livejournal.com/hogwarts_hocus/1538830.html?thread=77738510#t77738510) into the room. "Didn't know they were forcing people into this. It's like the mass wedding horror all over again!"

As he reached the table, Gustav turned and stared. He'd noticed a bit of unhappiness but he'd figured it was because they'd been unlucky with their matches, or something like. Somehow he'd missed the cattle prods. "The... mass wedding horror? Ajora and his angels, that's a story I've got to hear. Oblige me?"

"But of course!" With skills honed from years of stealing food from Yomi, Tomo managed to snatch a couple of cookies from the buffet table without even pausing. "So the Sorting Hat held this awards ceremony last summer, but instead of getting awards, it locked everybody in the room and decided it was randomly marrying people off whether they liked it or not! And then it decided we all had to live out in this tent village outside. It married me and this other girl Lola to a beet-obsessed pervert. Who wanted us to wear bonnets and grow beets and wanted to skin dead animals in the bedroom!"

She paused for a bite of cookie, chewing and swallowing before she continued. "Of course, nobody was going without a fight! It took a whole army of house elves with cattle prods to get us down there. And then they stuck around to keep us from escaping! I kicked hundreds of 'em in the first week alone. We tried food warfare, espionage, exploding beets, declared war on the Hat. And someone even tried a lawsuit!" Even Tomo knew that was scarier than food warfare.

He remembered arriving sometime in summer, and shuddered. "God. Good for me I missed that." But he'd missed a lot around then. Being continuously blotto did that. Unless he did get caught in it and was too drunk to notice?

"So what worked?" He figured something had to have worked for the current scene to be possible, even if that something was dumping the husband down a well off-grounds (Gustav did somewhat hope that wasn't the answer, unhealthy interest in beets or not).

"Yeah, lucky you! I never wanna see another beet as long as I live." Tomo grimaced. Sure, the look on Dwight's face had been priceless, but the next few weeks were boring beyond belief.

She hesitated for a second, realizing that she really didn't know what had worked, but then settled on "Sheer persistence! We kept it up for about a month and the Hat got fed up. It annulled all the marriages and took the tent city down." Tomo snorted. "Didn't get an award, though. Should've for putting up with that for so long!"

"God." Gustav grimaced himself. "All that trouble and nothing to show for it at the end?" Story of my life, he'd add were he in a more self-pitying mood, or a My Hardship Is Bigger Than Your Hardship mood, which would have been rather inaccurate. It was more like the story of the latter half of his life. "But at least it blew over, then." He set about refilling his drink.

"Pretty much," Tomo added. "Well, no, then somebody hexed the food at the annulment party and a lot of people got turned into stuff. But that wore off too."

She took a totally unconcerned bite of cookie, thinking. "Woulda been fun to actually storm the Hat's house, though. I even got armor made just for that!"

"Might well've been," he said after a moment's thought. "Storming, that is. At least around here. No getting killed, that would've improved things a good bit."
