There were very many good things about having a staff position.

Having his own quarters would have to head the list, Nny had concluded. The money wasn't really important to him (although he had gotten himself a rather nice broom of his very own), and the Brainfreezy machine and house elf were just perks.


But the thought of... overseeing... detentions, now, that was something to look forward to. And the office he'd be sharing with Teatime had some of the most interesting devices. Nowhere near as lethal as he was used to, but fascinating none the less.

Was that a pillory in the corner? Now that really needed to be somewhere more public.

"Fantastic, isn't it?" Teatime asked - well, rather more like stated - approvingly. Currently he was examining some of the devices critically. He tapped an insidious-looking unnamed metal Instrument of Minor Pain smartly with the blade of one of his knives. "How much use have these seen, I wonder..."

He'd been in a good mood. Perhaps it was yesterday, in some creepy and unusual way; perhaps it was the information he'd received today; perhaps it was the fact that he now had two wonderful swords (the one that had previously belonged to some other Loki than the one he was familiar with was the one he carried currently; he wanted to bring at least one down to Work, to intimidate any guests). He didn't care what it was, though. Not right now. If pressed, he'd say a combination of all three.

"We're going to have so much fun with these. I can already tell."

"Intriuging. Very intriuging." Nny held up a set of leather restraints with large domed metal studs lining the insides. "I had a set almost exactly like this, but with spikes."


"Is that a rust stain or old blood? Some of these are in dreadful condition."

"Quite evidently, the former owner'd chosen to abandon them, and let them rust. Why, I wonder? They're such lovely things." He patted what looked suspiciously like a rack lovingly. "I wonder if we could find a certain god to get into one of these things. Perhaps Eros, even..."

Nny narrowed his eyes and laughed unpleasantly. "Oh yes. Oh, yes. There are all sorts of things I'd do to him. A god can take a lot of physical punishment, I'm sure."

"I should rather like to play Quisition on him, personally," Teatime said conversationally. "Ask him why he messed the castle up so horribly yesterday, and give him a lovely torturing until he repents. It should be ever so fun. Actually, I'm sure one of the teachers would be quite interested in giving him detention..."

"Which teacher?" He tilted his head. "I swear, that fuck makes me look like an angel of mercy. Fucking with people's minds like that, controlling their actions... I know it's ridiculous for me to talk about right and wrong, but it is. Wrong, that is."

"I don't know." Teatime shrugged. "I would think that, with the widespread infliction of love yesterday, at least one would be rather interested in sending Eros to detention. As punishment for the chaos of the students, at least, if nothing else..."

"That's... actually not unlikely. I know he shot a few teachers, and they made even bigger fools of themselves than I did. And he shot an awful lot of Slytherins, and they're pissy."

"Someone has to be. I'm actually considering making a public notice of the fact that I am quite capable of inhuming gods. For a fee, of course, I suppose, as I'm looking to find some use for money and I want a lot of it when it's needed." He paused. "I've got an idea about how to kill Eros, if need be, though I would rather have him for detention. I really just need to ask him a few questions."

"Kill him?" Nny looked up, startled and fascinated. "How would you do that?"

"I have a few theories. I haven't done all that much research on him, but he is one of those forces that..." Teatime paused. "Perhaps a better word would be negate. I've merely begun to consider what would happen if the embodiment of love is struck by something that inspires and is powered by pure hatred. I haven't considered an emotional weapon before, no, but if it's for a being that incites an emotion..."

"Well, he's certainly incited plenty of emotion around here. And a whole lot of hatred. It's a shame I was the only one to have voted squib when he showed up. Everyone thinks love is all sweet and fluffy, but it's not." He shook his head. "I'm rambling. So what do you mean by 'emotional weapon'?"

"A weapon that deals emotion like most weapons deal pain, wounds, and, in the right - or wrong, depending on your point of view - hands, death. Something like...Eros' arrows, except not inciting love, but instead anger. At the very least, seeing the embodiment of love being driven mad with anger might be interesting, if not actually fatal and accomplishing the purpose."

"So, wait... you think if you shot him with anger arrows, it'd... cancel him out? Like matter and antimatter?"

"It was a thought I had. I've only started thinking about how to do it earlier today. Before yesterday I was more concentrated on the job I'm actually being paid to do. Now, however, I suspect I have every excuse to try and work out how to kill Eros."

"Not a good day for you either, then?" Nny sighed. "Well, I'm with you. He was already on my List, but now I think everyone's got it in for him. I'd be only too glad to help."

"Well, I must say he inconvenienced me," Teatime said lightly. "And I don't particularly feel the urge to let him get away with it, either. But business is business, and hobbies are hobbies. All that I particularly want of him are the answers to a few questions."

"Only thing I want to hear from him is screaming. Prometheus got off easy compared to what I'd like to do."

"Prometheus?" Teatime shrugged. "Now, really, though. We'll have to make sure he doesn't use his godly powers to escape detention, first of all..."

"Maybe Cthulhu could help? Or Loki? Well, maybe not Loki, he probably enjoyed all that chaos."

"Mister Loki, I am inclined to believe, would not be disinclined to help me practice torturing gods...but I think that Professor Cthulhu would be a far greater asset, for both information and, perhaps, reason to use it. He could surely find reason to give the detention, after all."

"Who else might help... hmm." He tried to remember everyone he'd noticed making an ass of themself. "At this point, probably more people than not. Do you think Cthulhu would help?"

"I would hope so. I don't think he particularly likes Eros, so we do have that, I suppose. Somehow, I doubt that he was hit by Eros, but I can't imagine that that miss hurt our chances of having him on our side."

"Was anyone chasing after him? I don't think he'd have liked that much, either."

"I'm not certain about that, so I don't believe we should count on it. At the very least, we perhaps have his bias."
