Hogwarts was great, as far as back-from-the-dead scenarios went. The classes were sparse but interesting, the food was good, and people were adequately prepared for the threat of evil-clowns. Hogwarts was so great, in fact, that it had taken Steph nearly two months to realize her social circle was pretty much composed of old(er!) male vigilantes. It was kind of like hanging out with your uncles, and no one else. The uncles were undoubtedly cool, but still! A gal needed variety.

This was unacceptable. Steph was likeable, dagnabbit! But meeting people was kind of hard. It wasn’t as if she could put up sign, wait around with cookies, and see who was interested.

Hm. Actually, that wasn’t the worst idea she’d ever had. Who didn’t like cookies? Or things written on posterboard?

Steph walked into the great hall, tacked up a sign, and put out cookies and punch (House elves were all kinds of awesome).

Malingo nodded. "Some. Nothing really fancy," he said. "But I can make soup and grill fish... Wolfswinkle always ordered most of our food from off the island."

"I'm not sure it's quite the same as what you're thinking of. Actually, I'm not sure what pizza or Chinese-food is," Malingo admitted. "But we'd get a shipment of bread and vegetables and cold cooked meats every so often."

"Sorry," Malingo said, with a shrug. "What's it like?"

Malingo shook his head. "No, I've only had a couple," he replied. Actually, he was fairly hungery; he'd come in here to find something to each and hadn't had much of a chance to see what was available before he'd been sidetracked by Steph's table.

Carefully, he picked up a slice, and spent a moment trying to keep the strings of hot cheese that stretched from the sides contained. When he'd gotten the white tendrels looped back up onto the pizza, he took a careful bite and chewed thoughtfully.

"You're right," he said, grinning. "This is wonderful. I can't imagine why we don't have something like this in the Abarat."

"Maybe I could. I wonder how much it would cost to open a shop in the Yebba Dim Day?" Malingo wondered aloud. "But first I suppose I'd have to figure out how to get back to the Abarat."
