When she had been in college, Camilla and her twin brother had shared a flat, and they had always held dinner there on Sunday nights for their small group of friends. The Sorting Hat had reminded her about this, and suggested she take up that tradition again, here at Hogwarts. Actually, she thought the Hat considered this part of her 'bribe' for admittance. She might otherwise have been reluctant to issue invitations for such an intimate gathering to people she hardly knew as yet.

It would hardly do to invite only the Sorting Hat, so Camilla sent invitations to the people she had met at her Sorting -- those who had not squibbed her or made her uncomfortable -- and to the nice people she had met in the Gryffindor common room and elsewhere. She ended up with a longer list of potential guests than she might have desired -- she had never thrown large parties. Still, they might not all show up; and if they did, why, then, the Hat should be even more pleased.

So owls went out to the following people:

Violet Baudelaire
Christine Daae
Robin Goodfellow
Brenda Johnson
Marius Pontmercy
Dawn Summers
Oliver Wood
Adam Young
and, of course, the Sorting Hat.

Each one was handwritten in maroon ink, with the addressee's name at the top as well as on the outside of the folded and sealed letter; no Dictaquills for Camilla, who was in some ways an old-fashioned girl. After the salutations, each invitation went on to say:

I'm having a little informal dinner gathering on Sunday night in room 202 (you know, the little empty room near the statue of Paracelsus?), and I'd like it very much if you could attend. We'll be having lamb. If you don't eat meat, could you let me know, and I'll arrange for something else?

RSVP via owl. I understand the owls should be able to find me.

Best,
Camilla Macaulay
Gryffindor

((OOC: Neither Camilla ICly nor I OOCly will be offended if your characters don't show up! I know at least two of these characters are played by a single mun and I don't want to overburden anyone. ))

Camilla,

Thanks for the invitation. I'd be real glad to come.

It's nice of you to ask about what we eat, too. I'm a vegetarian, but you don't hafta do anythin' special for me. I'll just eat whatever's left.

I'll see you then!
Adam

Camilla,

I just don't eat meat. Milk and cheese and stuff is fine.

Thanks!
Adam

Cher Camilla,

Oh! That sounds lovely! I would be delighted to attend. I love lamb. I'm just under strict orders from my music teacher not to eat much dairy and to drink lots of water at meal times. I do hope that won't inconvenience you?

If not, I can simply avoid any cheese present and bring a carafe of water.

Gros bises,
Christine Daae

Cher Camilla,

I would be delighted to! I could always sing the Jewel Song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WLwD_QEhoc) from Gounod's Faust, or Da tempeste (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3WmN7H0t1A) from Handel's Cleopatra. Then there's the lovely Pourquoi dans les grands bois (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-L-pl11kWY&mode=related&search=) from Delibes's Lakmé. If the Hat would be kind enough to sing with me, we could always do the Bell Song (http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ju-oCQxZ9hs&mode=related&search=), also from Lakmé. I would be glad to perform which ever one you wish. Or if you have a particular song in mind, I could learn that fairly quickly.

Gros bises,
Christine

Dear Miss Macaulay,

I'd love to attend! I don't have any aversion to lamb; it sounds like it will be wonderful. Thank you for the invitation!

(The return letter was written on fine parchment in perfect Latin, tied up with a silk ribbon of deep blue, and accompanied by a small bouquet of irises (http://w3.goodnews.net/~kkrugh/garden/siberian%20iris%2004.jpg) and heather (http://www.shee-eire.com/Herbs,Trees&Fungi/Herbs/Heather/Photos/heather.jpg).)

My dearest madam,

It is my utmost pleasure to accept your kind invitation.

Until then, I will await the delight of your company with great anticipation.

Yours respectfully,

R. Goodfellow

Dear Camilla,

I'd love to come to dinner, thank you. Except for my Sorting I haven't really had a chance to get out and meet people here, so I'm very glad you thought of me.

Lamb is fine, and would you like me to bring anything?

Sincerely,
Brenda Johnson

Miss Macaulay,

Thank you very much for the invitation. Lamb sounds wonderful. Do I have to dress up for it?

Sincerely,

Oliver Wood
