A piece of paper floats out of the fireplace in the Gryffindor commons. Later, a house elf happens upon it while cleaning. Realizing what it is, the house elf makes up a small package, attaches it to the leg of an available owl and sends it off.

Dear Laura,

We're off to war again, and we don't know if we will make it back, though we of course hope we will. In case the worst happens, we wanted to give you one last gift. In our room is the one thing we left behind: Nimitz's favorite wind chimes. Treecats love them, so we want you to have them for Galahad. We hope you'll remember us whenever you hear them.

The house elf has thoughtfully packaged up the chimes, and they arrive with the letter.

The house-elf's owl arrived with the package while Laura was in the process of redecorating, (http://community.livejournal.com/hogwarts_hocus/927024.html?thread=45771056#t45771056) and after reading the note through several times, she hung the wind chimes in a place of honor. The note she smoothed out carefully and slipped in between the pages of her diary, (http://wh0-kill3d-m3.livejournal.com/2670.html?thread=21358#t21358) where she kept her most important pieces of correspondence.
