Factory Tours

It had come to Slartibartfast's attention that most of his schoolmates were extremely skeptical about his profession so, in an effort to troll the school for potential clients, he had decided to give a tour not of Neptune, but of the factory itself.

Accordingly he posted a sign on the bulletin boards in each of the Common Rooms, reading:

Hyperspace Engineering will be offering a tour of their factory floor tomorrow evening at 6 o'clock. Sensible shoes and warm clothes suggested. Interested parties please contact Slartibartfast.

The sign caught Dawn's eye. Slarti-whatever had done that very interesting app about building planets, hadn't he? Sounded cool enough! She found a convenient owl and sent it off with a note.

I should certainly be interested in seeing where planets are made. Are you or any of your employees knowledgeable about Kepler's laws of planetary motion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kepler%27s_laws_of_planetary_motion), by any chance?

Wonderful! And yes, we do often integrate all three of those laws, though, you know, we know them under other names. Of course, there's always some bugger who comes round and wants to bugger the whole thing up, just to be different. I'd be more than happy to show you the, you know, the oddball planets.

The oddball planets sound most intriguing. I understand that Venus, for instance, has an orbit which is nearly circular. I reckon there are probably some jokers on your staff, eh? There's always a few of them about.

You did indeed spell it right. We don't have sample planets on the floor itself--only the real thing, albeit under construction. Much better, really; you can look at all the little details.

Freeeyow! I have always wanted to see the Magrathean factory floor - ever since my great uncle Poindexter used to tell me stories about the legendary planet builders when I was a kid... Actually that's not true, but Arthur said it was extremely disturbing and I'm always up for disturbing. Count me in.
