Susan returns to Hogwarts (Open RP with closed bits in)

Well, the school had clearly not caught fire or blown up in her absence. Susan permitted herself just the tiniest tinge of unseemly regret at this fact and then, choosing to be entirely inconspicuous, she made her way to the room she shared with Emma.

Her roommate wasn't in when she arrived, for which Susan was sorry; she found, to her surprise, that she'd rather missed Emma, who'd been inexplicably absent in the weeks before Susan's own holiday in any case. She unpacked her new clothes, put her books back on the shelf, and sighed.

Well. Nothing for it. I'm back. Might as well get my mail and find out from Stephen what's been going on.

She took a deep breath and, fighting the urge to stay invisible, made her way to the Potions office.

((Anyone who wants to should feel free to interact with Susan as she heads down to Maturin's office. She will not read her mail until after she gets it from him.))

"Ha. Yeah. I'm hungover. I've been kind of...occupied the last few days." He shut his eyes and rubbed the side of his nose. "No big news for you, I don't think, but I might have missed something." He squinted at her. "New clothes?"

Occupied. Coming from Logan, and combined with hangover, Susan was pretty sure that couldn't mean anything good, but now was probably not the time to pry.

"New clothes, yes. Borrowing a page from Stephen, I suppose. Not that any sartorial choices are all that unusual here, but when in Ephebe, as they say." She looked Logan up and down once more, and added, "Speaking of Stephen, I'm on my way to get my mail from him, but would you like to meet for a drink -- or tea -- later? I'm sure there's some fair catching-up to do."

"Yeah, that'd be good." He was pathetically glad to see her, he realized, and if he'd been less queasy and disconnected he'd probably be angry with himself for that. He summoned up a smirk. "You should have warned me about the clothes, though. I specifically described you to Lilly as dressing like a Victorian schoolmarm." A pause. "I gave her your name, as someone she could get in touch with, for emergencies, if she couldn't reach me. She's back. Post-dead, or whatever. Lilly."

"Oh." Of course. Lilly. The girl who -- well, that explained the haggard look and the hangover, and then some. What did one say in this sort of situation? I'm sorry didn't seem right, and congratulations was entirely wrong, and I'm glad to hear it didn't work either. "I'm glad to help any way I can," she said lamely. "Are you --" no, of course he's not all right; he's standing there with a hangover. "-- right. We should definitely talk. I'll owl you when I'm finished with Stephen."

"Sure, okay. Thanks." Logan leaned against the stair rail. "I'm actually on my way out, and I might end up crashing at the Broomsticks for a few hours, but I'll be back later. Maybe sometime this evening? By that time you may have some drama of your own impending."

Susan couldn't help rolling her eyes at the last. "Please don't say that. Even though it's probably true, I'd rather not tempt Fate. But yes, I'll let you know when I'm free. Oh, and that reminds me -- if you ever wanted to set up listening charms? In addition to the Room of Requirement, I'd also suggest the stone bench down by the greenhouses."

Logan thought he'd been pretty generous with the "may," as a matter of fact. At any rate: "Good to know." He grinned. "And...oh, the doc's probably not going to be approving of me right now. I kind of...lost it at Lilly's sorting...not at him, at Lilly, but and he's been snarking at me ever since. I don't really mind, but you know. FYI." He lifted a hand in an ironic little wave, and then headed off again. Over his shoulder, he tossed, "So...see you later, Su. And welcome back."

"Thank you. And thanks for the warning." She waved, and continued down the hall.
