open RP: office hours for Potions

The Calming Draught having worn off, Stephen resumed his normal routine, which largely involves researching potions, testing potions, and dissecting things.

However, he did feel a bit negligent of his professorial duties. Perhaps holding office hours would be helpful, as Crowley had done before. Some of Stephen's students did not have as easy a time making bruise balm in the most recently held class as he had hoped. Also, there were new students who had arrived at the school since the class had been held.

So he directed his house-elf to post a notice in the Great Hall and the common rooms, and posted it on his office door himself:

Office hours for Potions are being held. Current and potential students are welcome to drop by Professor Maturin's office to discuss any issue of interest to them.

He thought that putting it in the way Crowley had ("Come by to chat if you have a question about class, your homework assignment, or if you're just really fucking bored, too") was perhaps less than professional, but he did want to make it clear that he was available to discuss anything that a student felt it necessary to discuss, even if it were not related to potions. After all, the recent owl from Dib concerning the Gryffindor boy's run-in with Ichimaru Gin suggested to him that more attention to extracurricular problems might be a good thing.

(( OOC: Whoever stops by Stephen's office will be offered tea, as is his habit. This does not need to be problematic -- so far everyone who's drunk tea in his office has done so without incident. But the potential exists for the clumsy house-elf to have spilled something in your tea, and you're welcome to take advantage of that fact. Available potions include anything in the HP Lexicon that isn't overly perilous, as well as mpreg potion, virility potion, gender-change potion, and a potion that can turn you into a fish or turn a fish into a human.))

Jack rapped on the door politely. "Professor Maturin?" he called. "The poster said to drop by, so, erm, hi. Can I come in?" Jack held his breath, hoping that he'd be admitted. A potion would really help round about now.

Stephen looked up from his reading -- still that same monograph on beetles that Sir Joseph Blaine had sent him via owl. "That I am. Please do come in," he said, gesturing to the chair that Jack had recently vacated. "I do not think I was present at your Sorting, and have not had the pleasure of an introduction."

Oliver knocked lightly on the door. He poked his head in halfway. "Uh, hello, Professor. I don't know if you'd want to talk to me, but I came by to apologize for my behavior yesterday. I'm sorry about wanting to kill you and all."

Byakuya stood before Maturin's closed door, adjusting the collar of his turtleneck. No matter how he straightened and pulled at the collar, it still failed to adequately conceal all of the topmost bruise on his neck (which was in fact clearly a bite mark, but he refused to think of it as such). Thankfully, that was all that could be seen of the damage Gin had inflicted. He lightly knocked on the door.

Talking about anything of interest. It was a prospect that fascinated Teatime, just like the subject of Potions. And there was still a matter he hadn't attended to with the professor: the month prior's bodyswap. He really ought to owl River, for that matter. There was more than one thing to discuss with her.

And so, out of sheer curiosity about what might be discussed, Teatime decided that a talk with the professor might be fun. But, out of politeness (and some vague memory of this one's predecessor, perhaps, and of teachers of that life prior), he didn't barge in. He knocked.

Stephen was somewhat embarrassed that he had not thought to return the book before dropping off the face of the earth for a week. "Of course, Dr Grant. I have it here at hand -- I have consulted it often," he said, rising to pick the book off a cluttered shelf and hand it to his colleague. "I envy you all the more now that I have read it. To take as one's life's work the study of such fascinating creatures -- to find and puzzle out the symmetry of their bones, the mysteries of their workings -- surely it must have been paradise."

Gin didn't even bother to knock when he came strolling into Stephen's office. "Hello, Professor," he greeted the other man superciliously, the usual smile plastered across his features, eyes narrowed to the usual slits. "I heard that you were having office hours and thought it would be a wonderful chance to have tea with you again. Is the bath ready, do you think?"

"Why, Mr Ichimaru, what a pleasant surprise. I fear Snape had not installed a bathtub in the potions office, more's the pity. Whatever could he have been thinking? You may sit, if you like, however." Stephen gestured to a chair.

Terry knocked on the door with some trepidation. He and Ryuuji had been gone for a good couple of days, without any warning or leave taking.

And while Ryuuji could explain things well enough on his own, Terry wanted a chance to feel out the potions teacher for himself, see if he was someone they could trust and if so, how far and then see.

He would have liked to see if he could explain things as having been his fault. He knew Ryuuji wouldn't want anything personal, and likely anything weak about himself perceived. Which is why Terry would merely speak to the man first. If there was no give, he'd simply ask for study supplaments and go about his business.
