Summary: Backdated to some time last week. Nico and Karolina finally talk about what happened just before Karolina left to join the skrulls. The two of them feel awkward off and on as the conversation continues and takes a couple of different turns. There's something else Nico wants to tell Karolina but you know Nico, if she can't be impulsive and act in certain situations, then she's probably not going to say anything at all.
Nico: The dance had been a lot of fun. Nico had been both annoyed and amused when Chase showed up in one of her outfits. It was nice having everyone around and joking around like old times. But unfortunatly things could never be the same as they were, she was hoping her talk with K would repair some of the damage she had probably done when she wigged out on her. Then again, if she said everything that was on her mind..she quickly pushed those thoughts away and fidgeted with a the hem of her shirt as she waited for Karolina to show up.
Karolina:Karolina was nervous as she approached Nico's room. She had a pretty good idea as to what the other girl wanted to talk about, and Karolina was unsure how that particular conversation would end. After seeing all the others here, Karolina had hoped that the group could go back to how they used to be. Now, of course, she knew that could never be, after all that had happened to them. Taking a deep breath, Karolina knocked twice on the door.
Nico:: Nico jumped a little when she heard the door. She had been so caught up in her thoughts that she had zoned out and the knock brought her back. "Door's open!" She called out, knowing who it was. Deep breath Nico, deep breath. This conversation was going to be a sensitive one, one wrong word from her end and it would probably end in a disaster. Knowing her luck and way with words, it probably will end that way. Sigh.
Karolina:"Hey." Karolina gave a little wave as she entered the room. She tried to organize her thoughts as she eased the door close. Should she start? Should she wait for Nico to start? Perhaps she should have left the door open, just in case she needed to make a quick escape. No, no, that wouldn't help anything. "So..." Karolina said, "nice curtains." Oh, this is going well.
Nico: Nico glanced over at her curtains which were for the most part, pretty bland. "Thanks, they came with the room" Wow, this was awkward. Usually conversation flowed freely between the two of them. They'd crack jokes with one and other and flip through fashion magazines. The two obviously had different tastes than one and other, but they knew what looked good on the other. Karolina had been the one who suggested she try wear contacts instead of glasses." So..uh..Karolina" It almost looked like she had summoned the courage to actually start the conversation, but then her nerves got the better of her. "Cookie?" She held up a plate that a few cookies on it.
Karolina:"No thanks, I just ate." Karolina slid her hands into her jean pockets. This conversation had not even started and it was already going nowhere. Chewing thoughtfully on her lower lip, Karolina decided to just face the issue head on. "So what did you want to talk to me about?"
Nico: Nico polished off one of the cookies on the plate. Whenever she was nervous she always got hungry, she couldn't understand why and it could get annoying. "I wanted to talk to you about what happened between the two of us before you left" Another cookie was picked up and she took a bite out of it. "Sorry I wigged out on you like that. I didn't mean to..I just wasn't expecting it. Even with contacts I'm still oblivious to things"
Karolina: "You have nothing to apologize for! I mean, I'm the one who misunderstood..." she motioned around the room, "everything." Karolina bit her lip again. "I-I guess I was just seeing what I wanted to see, y'know? I've always...liked you, and I just...I don't know." Without knowing it, Karolina started twisting the end of her braid around her index finger.
Nico: Goodbye cookie, that cookie got devoured as the butterflies rose in her stomach. She put the cookie plate away from her or else she was going to wolf down all of the cookies." I.." Nico wasn't sure what to say to that, she was trying her best to remain focused on Karolina and not look down at her hands or bed. "I do things without meaning to some times. I can be really stupid like that. I'm really sorry if I hurt your feelings..but hey, it all worked out in the end right? Xavin seems really nice" Now she was looking away from Karolina and at her hands.
Karolina: That name was the last name Karolina needed to hear at that moment. She had not heard a word from her 'fiance' since she arrived at the school. The idea that Xavin had died kept nagging at the back of her mind. Feeling a bit light headed, Karolina flopped down in a nearby chair. "Yeah, she is," Karolina replied. Present, she must refer to Xavin in the present, Xavin could not be dead as long as Karolina spoke of her in the present.
Nico: Stupid Xavin. She didn't even know Karolina! She just showed out of no where and stole Karolina away. Okay sure, it was to save two alien races, but that didn't mean she was the right person for K or that she could make her happy. Oh God, she was jealous, wasn't she? Those butterflies in her stomach were really starting to flutter now."Are..are the two of you still going to get married" Pause.."Did you get married?" Her eyes widened at the realization. Karolina had been gone for a few months, that was plenty of time for a forced marriage.
Karolina: Karolina half-rose out of her seat. "No! I mean, we were going to, we still might, I guess. I mean, we didn't call it off or anything," Karolina clarified. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and started over. "Xavin knew that I was still uneasy about the wedding, so she suggested that I take some time to think about it." Karolina still could not understand why the Skrull, who had been so enthusiastic about their engagement, would even think to suggest that she take her time in deciding. "So I came here to clear my head, learn some magic, maybe figure out what I need to do." Karolina smiled wearily at Nico. "No luck so far."
Nico: Fingers clutched around the blanket on the bed and she closed her eyes over, listening to what Karolina was saying. Her best friend had been plucked out of the world she knew and literally taken to a whole new world and had to deal with two races being at war, and here she was moping over how she felt. Talk about being selfish. She opened up her eyes and patted a spot beside her, motioning for Karolina to join her. "You've only been here for a couple of months, you'll figure it out. And you've got all of us here with you now, we'll do what we can to help" As she spoke, she managed a small smile.
Karolina:"That's true," Karolina said, returning the smile. She rose from her chair and made her way over to Nico. "It was such a surprise when everyone began to turn up here," she noted, sitting down next to the other girl. Karolina remembered how relieved she felt when first Chase, then Gert, Victor and the others had turned up. While most of the other students seemed to be nice, it just was not the same without her friends there. Maybe that is why she had never felt completely comfortable around Xavin and her people. Karolina's smile widened. "It's kinda like the old days, isn't it?"
Nico: "I still can't believe we're here! I mean Molly kept on making all those Harry Potter refrences, and now we're actually AT Hogwarts" This was such a trip and a half. Some times she felt like she had watched a Harry Potter movie marathon with Molly and she was actually dreaming. But this was all very real and while it was a bit daunting, it was also very exciting. "I'm glad we all ended up in the same place..I'm really happy to see you again Karolina. It just wasn't the same without you" She chewed on her lower lip and stole a glance at her best friend "I missed you tons"
Karolina:Karolina was touched by Nico's words. She had been worried that, once they saw each other again, they would be unable to be friends anymore. Now, that fear seemed silly. "I've missed you too," Karolina said. On a whim, she leaned over to hug her friend.
Nico: When the two of them hugged, their height difference really stood out. Karolina had to lean down to hug Nico and Nico had to reach up to hug Karolina. And Nico did just that, she reached up and wrapped her arms tightly around Karolina. " I know it's selfish of me, but I don't want you to go back. Leave it to our parents to screw with our lives, even when they are gone" She hugged Karolina even tighter, as if she was afraid the blonde girl might slip away.
Karolina:The hug was tighter than she liked, but Karolina did not want to break away from the other girl yet. "That's what parents do," she said with a hint of bitterness in her voice. Pulling Nico close, Karolina rested her head on her friend's shoulder. "I'm not going anywhere for a long time." Karolina planned to keep that promise.
Nico: Eventually Nico relaxed into the hug and loosened her grip on the other girl. She kept her arms around her and rested her cheek against Karolina‘s head. It took her a few minutes to realize just how snuggly she had been getting with the other girl that even surprised her and she released her hold on her friend and scooted back a few feet. “Um..” It almost looked like she was going to explain what she did but then at the last minute she chickened out. By now you’d think she’d be getting a grip on her emotions and random outbursts. “And whenever you do have to leave again..maybe we can come visit you for a bit? What’s your home world like? Does it have tangerine trees and marmalade skies?” The grin on her face was a decoy to hide her nervousness.
Karolina:"You know, I never did get to see it," Karolina replied, smiling. Nico's sudden movements had surprised her, but Karolina was trying to hide it. "But if you want to know what the inside of a Skrull spaceship is like, I can tell you that."
Nico: "You never got to see your home planet?" Nico didn't hide her surprise and both of her eyebrows shot up into her forehead. When Karolina left, Nico was under the impression that Karolina waspartially leaving so she could see her people and actually see her homeworld. "Why not?" Pfft, clearly Xavin only thought about herself and her needs.
Karolina:"Well, I would have gotten to see it in time, I guess." Karolina had wanted to, still wants to, see the world that her parents had called home, to know the place that was home to the would-be conquers of Earth, but she had to make peace with herself before making it with 'her' people. "I ended up coming here before we had a chance to visit it." She shrugged. "I still want to see it though, even if it's only for a moment.
Nico:: "I wonder if there's a way you can see it while you're here. I mean people come from all different universes and planets." Plus the school was a magical school that probably had teleportation spells. There had to be away to get there. "Do you know the name of your homeplanet? Maybe this place will have a book about it and I can teleport us there with the Staff of One" Getting back would be a liiittle tricky since she couldn't use the same spell twice, but that might change here. "And there's always the leapfrog"
Karolina:"I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask around," Karolina conceded. "My planet is called Majesdane." Karolina considered Nico's offer. "I dunno, it could be dangerous.. After all, my people could all be like my parents. And, you know, Chase in space. That's just asking for trouble."
Nico: Saying Chase in Space caused the girl to laugh. That sounded like the name of some cheesy space adventure. But she was right, asking Chase to pilot in space could lead to a lot of problems. But..space traveling would be pretty nifty. Hrnn "Well, if all else fails I could probably have the Staff of One create a globe of your planet that lets you zoom in on it and see what it likes "That was of course assuming the Staff of One have universal connections.
Karolina:"Do you really think you could do that?" Karolina grinned and fought the urge tokiss hug Nico again. "That would be awesome."
Nico: "The Staff of One has only shown one limitation so far; bringing someone back to life. It can't hurt to try" and she wasn't sure if the Leap frog could actually leap high enough to break the atmosphere. but hey, maybe it had rockets. "I'm going to check out the library later and see if I can find anything on the Staff of One" It would be easier to ask the professors for help, but you know, she still had trust issues with adults.
Karolina: "Do you need any help with that?" Karolina's grin widen, something that had seemed impossible. She is going to see her home world! She wondered what it would be like. Would it be beautiful? Hideous? Have plaid fruit?
Nico: If Karolina came from that planet? It had to be more pretty than hideous. But..it might have plaid fruit. "Sure, the more the merrier. Maybe Gert and Victor will want to help out as well" Nico smiled when she saw how happy Karolina looked, it was nice to see her looking happy again.
Karolina: "Vic will definitely. He's practically living in the library anyway." Karolina stood up, smoothing down her shirt. "Want to do it after dinner tonight?"
Nico: "Sounds good to me" Nico got up off of the bed and picked up the plate of cookies that was lying on the bed and sat it down on one of her drawers. "If we manage to figure out tonight, then I cast the spell. If not, I'll cast it whenever"
Karolina: "I can't thank you enough for this, Nico. I'll send an owl to Gert and Victor, see if they want to meet up with us then." Now what does she say? "So...I probably should head back to my room, start on those owls."
Nico: This was her last chance to say the other thing she wanted to say. "Karolina.." Nico took a step closer to her and her heart felt like it was lodged in her throat. Lots of thoughts ran through her mind, most of them were doubts. Even if she told Karolina how she felt, which was still really confusing to her, she'd screw things up in the end like she normally does "I'll see you later tonight, at dinner." D'oh.
Karolina: Strange, that was not what Karolina thought Nico was going to say. Then again, she is not sure what, if not that, Nico would want to say. "See ya," Karolina replied, giving Nico another grin as she headed
Nico: The dance had been a lot of fun. Nico had been both annoyed and amused when Chase showed up in one of her outfits. It was nice having everyone around and joking around like old times.
