Ever since a certain chocolate plot misadventure with enchanted food had bestowed upon Lezard the temporary guise of a chinchilla, the mage had been fascinated with those fluffy Andean creatures. He no longer felt such kinship with the chinchilla that he would find satisfaction in emulating their habits. Still, he had not lost his interest in them, and had long planned to create a small area of chinchilla habitat on the Hogwarts grounds, the better to observe the animals' natural behaviors.

Today he was wandering around the grounds, steering clear of the greenhouses and mangosteen grove, looking for a gazebo-free area where a chinchilla habitat could be created. In one gloved hand he held a list of chinchilla-food plants:

chinchillas eat these plants )
And strapped to his chest, the straps secured beneath his cloak and over his vest and shirt, was a small carrying pouch. Through the opening at the top of the pouch, a chinchilla peeked out from time to time, scenting the air and looking about.

Lezard appeared to be talking to the chinchilla sporadically as they went along.
