First of all, apologies that this is so delayed but what with the difference in our timezones (Liz in America, Damien in Europe), we're having trouble meeting up long enough to deal with situations properly. Such as -- and I'm sure you've all guessed that is going to be the focus of the announcement -- the Jadis application.
Godmodding is not allowed in
hogwarts_hocus. That's a basic rule of RP, and we intend to hold to that. It has
never been allowed and
the original conversation with Jadis-mun was not about whether she could auto-attack characters but whether she could attack them at all without being popcorned for attempting to kill them. The mod ruling on that was that since being turned to stone wasn't the same as being killed, Jadis could turn people to stone without being popcorned. However, absolutely nothing was said about her being allowed to turn people to stone
without mun permission, since it was taken for granted by the mods that any player would have the sense and common courtesy to ask for permission before performing any attack at all on a character.
Secondly, we had no clear policy on what to do about godmodding before this incident because we were hoping it would never come up. It's disappointing to have to deal with it, but the mod ruling is that
godmodding will result in suspension from the game for all characters played by the guilty mun, and popcorning of the character in question that godmodded. In this case, there was another character who has been accused of godmodding, also played by the same mun, but as we never had this rule up before, we're showing leniancy in this case (and only because it's the first one) and simply depowering the character which would otherwise be popcorned. The suspension for the mun was decided upon as being two weeks long, which should hopefully be long enough for everyone to calm down and move on, so that no grudges will be held once she returns to the game.
Thirdly, for those of you that want to keep RPs which happened within the app? Unfortunately, that's not completely possible. The Sortings are, and always have been, open for everyone. It would be OOC for only chars capable of meeting Jadis on equal ground to show up there, and since the app caused so many complaints to be sent the way of the mods, it was thought best to take down the app and retcon the entire incident. Jadis-mun gracefully agreed to provide any missing threads for conversations, if you'd like to replicate them in another Sorting app/RP post/whatever but as far as HH canon is concerned, Jadis never applied.
As regards actual events, we're willing to work with muns that want to further character development to try to set up scenarios/RPs that'll let them get back whatever it was that they lost, be it a chance to have a goddess bitchfight or a
pony.
Fourthly, we noticed in the comments to Jadis-mun's public apology -- which she graciously offered to post -- that some people were dismayed that the app had been taken down without prior warning. Again, we're sorry for that, but we didn't want to have any more chars wandering in there and more bad blood being caused, and since mods can't actually edit posts and we took about ten hours to come to a decision on the Jadis situation (yes, we did manage to find ten hours to spend on MSN despite the timezones, go us!), we thought it was best not to have any new complaints slung our way while dealing with the pleas to ban the person responsible.
A better solution would have been to simply disable commenting, but mods can't do that to a post either, only freeze ongoing comment threads, so that option relies on having a mun that is online at the time and is cooperative, with Jadis-mun being the latter but not the former. Therefore, in the future, we'll put up a post warning the player base if an app looks like it will be deleted due to us not being able to get the mun to lock comments for one reason or another.
Fifthly, if we haven't covered anything, if you're unclear on our policies, if you have any better ideas to make,
comment. We run the comm as best as we can, but we are not omnipotent. If you have a problem with something, we need you to tell us so we can fix it, and if you think we're actually doing something
right (I know, I know, what are the odds of that?), then tell us that as well. What works, what doesn't -- feedback is the best way for us to judge how we're doing, and how all of you are doing.
