The girl who appeared in the popcorn room is unusual, even by Hogwarts standards. It's hard to describe her, as her appearance shifts and changes - no two people are likely to see her the same way, although they might all agree afterwards on a few things. Her hair might float about her head, many-coloured, or be cropped short. Her clothes are mismatched and strangely fitting (and tend to involve fishnet stockings or gloves, for some reason). The only really consistent thing is her eyes, one green with silver flecks, one blue.

And, of course, right now she was drenched in butter.

Delirium looked about herself, wide eyed. "Ooooh. This is exactly not where I was planning to be. I think. But it's very interesting, don't you think, doggie? "

Nobody answered. She frowned, and looked down, to find herself alone apart from two or three tiny iridescent mice she'd created earlier and forgotten about. They ran up her skirt and disappeared again. "Doggie? Barnabas? "

Still calling, she wandered out into the corridor. "Hello? "

((Permission granted from Death-mun. If your character is or has been insane, on large amounts of drugs, or otherwise, well, delirious, feel free to recognise her ;). And let me know if you'd like her to recognise or know slightly too much about them - she can be very perceptive, but she's also forgetful and easily distracted, as you'd expect, really... ETA: Sandman is one of those 'all myths are true'-type canons, so any gods and goddesses or similar beings are also free to know her or know of her. Or not, if you prefer. Background info.))

"Ah, well, it's been a while since I met him." John smiled ruefully. "I reckon we've all done some stuff we're not very proud of, yeah? Can't help being what you are." Christ knew he had his ugly, rotten side he'd just as soon never saw the light of day. Some people would question whether he actually had any other side, but that was beside the point.

"Yeah, most people don't seem to know they're coming until they get here. Your sister's here too, you know. She stopped by yet?" He didn't doubt for one minute that Death would know one of her siblings had arrived.

"Well, she'll come around quick enough, I'm sure of it. She might be just a little bit distracted right now." John smiled slightly. The longer he talked to Delirium, the easier it was to fool himself into thinking she was just a kid with weird hair, mismatched eyes and crazy clothes. Which maybe stood to reason, when he thought about it (only if he did think about it too much it got harder again, so he tried not to.)

"There's a spell on the place that keeps anybody from dying, see. So it's a bit like a holiday for her, I expect. Last time I talked to her she'd, ah. Made some new friends." He considered mentioning that Death had met somebody, but once again, he really wasn't looking to get on her bad side.

"You hungry or anything? If you want to wait around, the house elves'll bring you anything you like." He paused. "Within reason."

"D'you remember which House you belong in?" John asked her. He went and called a house elf, bending to whisper to it before sending it on its way, though he supposed if Delirium really wanted to know what he was up to she could just pick it out of his brain without the trouble of trying to overhear.

After the elf brought her her ice cream, and whenever she made her way there, there would be a big bouquet of multicolored balloons waiting.*

"And did you have any other friends here before? People who might want to know you're back?" he added.

*[Shut up, it's not like it costs him anything, and even Constantine doesn't go around wrecking little girls' days and not feel like a jerk.]

"Hufflepuff, then. Same House I'm in." And Death too. Good then, she'd have at least two people nearby to keep a friendly eye on her.

He smiled slightly, not entirely sure how it was going to work, having her around, but he'd survived her visits more than once and apparently so had Hogwarts. Who could tell, it might even be fun this time around. "Welcome back, pet."

It did take him a minute to catch up, but he got what she meant after a little bit of puzzling over it. "Sure. Wouldn't have said it, otherwise."
