With a little help from one of the house-elves, Jim had managed to obtain paper, pen, ink, and a crude map of the school, and make his way to the owlery. There, he composed and sent off two notes.
Dear Maddie,
My sorting has finished (I'm in Gryffindor), so I thought we could pick a time for our date? It looks like I really will need that tour. Anytime is fine with me.
Can't wait to see you,
Jim
PS - You were right about the Hat. I think it was flirting with me.
Dear Admiral Zex
I have completed my Sorting, and been assigned to Gryffindor, as per your recommendation. I would be honored to see your ship at your nearest convenience. If you wish, I can provide some information on applying for membership in the Federation as well.
Sincerely,
Capt. James T. Kirk, USS Enterprise
((OOC note: I'm currently on Japan Time, which is GMT +9, so I probably won't be on at the same time as you. Sorry if that makes things difficult.))

Date: 2010-07-27 10:55 am (UTC)Which, for Maddie, generally means a bad date, but...lo, and behold, there might be potential here...
Which means, she'll probably end up shooting herself in the foot. (or, the mun could be totally wrong, which would be amusing in itself)
Now, Maddie is girlie enough to get a thrill at seeing that a pretty nice looking bloke wants to see her. Not quite girlie enough to giggle about it. But, she definitely is looking forward to a date. So, she writes back:
Dear Jim,
That Hat is a horror. The only good thing about it is that it generally does leave people alone once their sorted, unless it has a random idea to marry them or build gazebos all over the lawn. I heard it made another student kiss it to be sorted.
Anyways, for a time, would meeting around 4 be good? I could show you around and then we could have dinner?
Looking forward to seeing you again,
Maddie
The mun had to bite her tongue...errr...stop her fingers from typing many smart alek remarks in that note...

Date: 2010-07-28 12:20 am (UTC)That's a relief at least. I'm not the least bit interested in knowing what a stripping hat looks like.
4 sounds great. Should we meet outside my house or yours?
Yours,
Jim
((And feel free to share all the snark you want!))

Date: 2010-07-28 02:41 am (UTC)Too late. (You get the idea that the mun mostly forgets that her keyboard has a backspace key during Maddie's tags, don't you? She is also glad the snark doesn't bother others...she actually has to work very hard to write 'straight' tags for Maddie.)
Dear Jim,
Your house might be easier, since you do need the tour. The common room would be a great place to start, I would think.
Yours,
Maddie
And, from there, will they actually go on the tour?

Date: 2010-07-28 01:28 pm (UTC)Or, in other words, she was about ten minutes late. And, of course, she arrived in a rush (that started right outside the door, but shhhh).
"Oh, sorry to keep you waiting," she said, her cheeks flush (and not entirely from the 'rushing around'). "I was sidetracked. Have you discovered the pictures talk?" she asked. Any port in a storm, any excuse to cover her tail.

Date: 2010-07-29 06:17 pm (UTC)"Wonderful! My ship is off in the woods so it should be a little walk, but I look forward to seeing you and learning about this 'Federation.'
PS: What does 'dear' mean in this context? Are you slyly hitting on me?
