((Or: I torture a criminally underplayed pup because it amuses me.))

It had all been going so well.

Meg had, earlier, paid a visit to Professor Granger, looking for recommendations to further her independent study interests. The professor had been willing to help, but after seeing that some of Meg's wandwork could use improvement, she'd sent her to look for a few Charms texts in the library.

Meg had been practicing her wand technique for quite some time when she noticed a charm written in the margin of the library book she'd been using. She'd at first been disgusted by such outright vandalism of school property, but then her curiosity got the better of her, and she cast the spell on herself, thus proving the old addage that book smart people don't always think practically.

Immediately, her head felt light, and her mind felt as if it were miles away from her body. Her stomach roiled, and she felt dizzy. She cursed herself for being all kinds of foolish, and stumbled to her feet. Immediately, the room began to spin and she had to brace herself against a bookshelf to keep on her feet.

She didn't trust herself to figure out how to reverse the spell on her own, and so she decided she'd better find someone grown-up and capable of doing magical things to fix it for her.

More than a little frightened, she made her way out of the library and down the hall, still hoping to encounter a kind soul who wouldn't laugh too much at her predicament. Her gait was lurching and stumbling, and occasionally she ran into walls and doors. This made her either want to giggle or cry, she couldn't seem to decide which. She probably would not be capable of walking a straight line or reciting the alphabet backwards.

Poor Meg had hit herself with an intoxication spell. If this didn't cure her of the desire to drink illicit beverages before her 21st birthday, probably nothing would.

Jing glanced at her eyes to see where she might be looking, but they appeared crossed. "Because one of me is from the future," he suggested with a broad grin. "And he's telling me that we're going to go drink some coffee."

"There's no pora vora here," Jing said, replying with the only thing he could think of that made sense and exploded. He hadn't seen any of the small animals around, which was probably a good thing since there were a lot of students who would most likely be careless with them and drop them. He offered her his arm. "How about some coffee and you tell me how that tesser thing makes pora vora?" he asked.

Ah, Kir would be spouting all kinds of nonsense about now, trying to lure her away or berating Jing for stealing her. "I'm Jing," he said. He frowned slightly. "I think Ravenclaw is a little closer," he decided and set out in that direction. "Pleased to meet you," he said, once they were on their way again.

Jing smiled. "Yes, it's good I wasn't named Cassia. You'd have trouble with that." And, it was a girl's name, but that is entirely beside the point. "So, then, coffee and I'll escort you to your room?" he asked, the comment cheerfully delivered without an ounce of flirting.

"Didn't think so," Jing said, subtly guiding her. "You don't smell like drink. Or, not like any drink I've encountered. What kind of spell?" he asked. That could be entertaining to use if needed during a job.

Jing read over the spell, memorizing it as he did. He took the book from her gently and slipped it into a pocket. "I'll hold that," he said with a smile. "What kind of coffee do you want?" he asked. "They have a lot of different kinds."

Jing laughed. "Okay. I've heard coffee's supposed to be good for you when you're drunk. Maybe it'll help." He looked at her a little closer. He was sure Kir would like her. Which meant, on principle, he should be nice to her, but not too nice.

Jing smiled a little embarrassed. "I was thinking that my friend Kir would think you are attractive," he confessed. "He would flirt shamelessly with you."

"I think his eyesight is just fine," Jing said, winking at her. He pushed open the door to the Ravenclaw common room and led her into the bar. "How do you like your coffee?"
