A mad tea party ((Open RP, River and A hand out food))

Cooking magazines had become something of a hobby to River of late. A had mentioned not too long ago handing out a meal again in the Great Hall, and one of the magazines she'd purloined from the old stacks in the library had yielded a recipe for 'cucumber sandwiches' and entertaining to plan around the eating of said snacks. Since the sandwiches were rather easy to eat, and there were plenty cucumbers available for the using, she noted A to join her in the kitchen.

There, they made scores of cucumber sandwiches with butter, vegetable, and cheese spreads, all to be served with iced mint tea. A sign at the entrance to the Great Hall invited everyone to partake, with the exception of troublemakers and ne'er-do-wells.

((Your characters may live free of fear; the food is untainted by anything but being made with love.))

"I will see to it that your diet does not lack for glucose as you learn the ways of unsweetened tea," A promised. "I will prepare special cakes for you to eat after drinking unsweetened tea."

L's expression became a distressed pout. "Is it...required?" he asked.

[identity profile] i-am-an-hero.livejournal.com 2009-07-26 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"It would be an acquisition of skill," A pointed out with a faint smile.

[identity profile] pre-l.livejournal.com 2009-07-26 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
L made something of a face. "I am not sure that unsweetened tea drinking is a skill that will benefit," he said.

[identity profile] i-am-an-hero.livejournal.com 2009-07-27 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
"An exercise in self-discipline?" A asked innocently. "Willpower over desires."

[identity profile] pre-l.livejournal.com 2009-07-27 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)
L frowned slightly. This conversation wasn't going in a way that would end up with him not drinking unsweetened tea. When all else failed, he recalled, there was a tactic left that was employed by the best of strategists. "Have you seen Matt?" he asked.

[identity profile] i-am-an-hero.livejournal.com 2009-07-27 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
For all his naivete, A had been trained to be L's sucessor, and was not entirely blind to such tactics.

"Why? How does he take his tea?"

[identity profile] pre-l.livejournal.com 2009-07-27 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
L frowned. "I think he prefers coffee. Have you seen him?" L asked again.

Instead of answering, A poured a glass of the mint tea and held it out, emphatically not adding sweetener.

[identity profile] pre-l.livejournal.com 2009-07-27 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
L looked at the glass and then at the sugar on the table behind A and then at the glass. "He asked me to marry him," he said.

[identity profile] i-am-an-hero.livejournal.com 2009-07-27 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
A blinked, but to his credit, did not drop the glass. "You would, you, you probably wouldn't have mentioned it if you'd said no," A said thoughtfully. "Or, or, not to me, I don't think. So it's a good thing, to be glad?"

[identity profile] pre-l.livejournal.com 2009-07-27 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
L grinned a little, his thumb pressed to the corner of his mouth. "It is a good thing," he said, color touching his cheeks.

[identity profile] i-am-an-hero.livejournal.com 2009-07-27 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Then I am glad," A said warmly. For L, that was a strong emotional reaction. "Matt is kind, and he, he cares about you. You will be very good to each other. It will be good to know that you are happy, and good to see your happiness."

[identity profile] pre-l.livejournal.com 2009-07-27 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"I am happy," L said, nodding. His smile became a little rueful. "He gave me a RingPop."

[identity profile] i-am-an-hero.livejournal.com 2009-07-28 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Ring... pop?" A was a little behind on novelty candy jewelry, and the term was unfamiliar.

[identity profile] pre-l.livejournal.com 2009-07-28 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
"A plastic ring with a sucker as the gem. It was strawberry flavored." Which, clearly made it superior to other rings.

[identity profile] i-am-an-hero.livejournal.com 2009-07-28 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
"A perfect ring for you, then," A said with a grin. "But wouldn't it be nice to have something that would last?"

[identity profile] pre-l.livejournal.com 2009-07-28 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
"I like the ring," L said, something close to a pout on his face.

[identity profile] i-am-an-hero.livejournal.com 2009-07-28 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
"It is a wonderful ring for you," A agreed. "I hope Matt has a vast supply of them."

Because it would be cruel to give L a candy ring and expect him not to eat it.

[identity profile] pre-l.livejournal.com 2009-07-28 10:51 am (UTC)(link)
L nodded solemnly. "I am confident that he is able to get more." His eyes flicked to the glass. "This should be celebrated," he said, leaning lightly on the last word.

[identity profile] i-am-an-hero.livejournal.com 2009-07-28 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes," A said, deftly not noticing L's glance. "I should make you both a cake. What sort does Matt like?"

[identity profile] pre-l.livejournal.com 2009-07-28 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
L frowned slightly. "He likes whipped cream," he replied without inflection.

[identity profile] i-am-an-hero.livejournal.com 2009-07-28 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Whipped cream and strawberries," A said with a grin, ignoring L's frown. "And a big cake, of course, so you will both have plenty, even if you decide to share."

[identity profile] pre-l.livejournal.com 2009-07-28 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
L smiled a little. "Thank you. That is very kind of you," he said.

[identity profile] i-am-an-hero.livejournal.com 2009-07-28 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"You are engaged. That is, it, it's special." Would he and River ever make it to that point? It wasn't something to rush, but it was a nice thought.
