Jasper took a moment or ten to wallow in the intense guilt he still felt over that horrifying incident. In his mind, he'd been the catalyst of what had caused Edward and Bella so much misery—what had caused their family to feel it was necessary to leave. He'd done a spectacular job of ruining everything.
And if that was Edward's last memory of him, it was really a wonder his greeting had been so friendly. The Cullen family? Full of angst puppies. Edward is still the King of Angst, though.
"No, Bella was still human. But something's wrong, Edward," he said after he'd forced the guilt away. He'd deal with it later. "You've forgotten a lot... or..." He frowned. "It hasn't happened to you yet? But I saw you and Bella not too long ago, before you returned here." He remembered while he talked, sharing that memory with Edward.
