Some months before, Nemo abruptly left on an extended vacation home to the Great Barrier Reef. Domino the house-elf had carefully stowed Nemo’s sled/tank-cart in the Care of Magical Creatures shed before returning to his normal duties about the castle.
He returned to the COMC shed every so often, to make sure Nemo’s pet tribble Furryfurrysoft was being properly fed. (“Just one scoop of food!” he remembered the small clownfish’s instructions, “or she will have Too Many Babies!”) Oh, all right, and being properly petted as well. (“She gets lonely if I don’t pet her!” the small fish had explained as he sat in boy-form with the tribble on his lap.)
He saw Orca the kitty and Loo-loo-doo-moh the Furby from time to time on these visits as well, mostly sunning on windowsills or chattering animatedly with other shed inhabitants.
But mostly, Domino had worked in the Hogwarts kitchen or tidied up the house common rooms, as he had done before being summoned to care for the small clownfish and his menagerie of pets. A house-elf’s primary mission is to serve, and Domino was happy to serve in this usual way, along with his brethren.
And then one day, Dr. Grant’s personal attendant house-elf brought Domino a note.
“Domino,
Nemo is back, and he’d like to be out and about. Could you come pick him up?
Grant”
Domino hurried to the COMC shed, where, sure enough, the large glass tank rested on the sled. Furryfurrysoft’s cage hung against the tank wall.
“Hi Domino!” Nemo cheered. “I went home to see my dad and I went to some school classes with Mr. Ray, and we learned about bi-o-lu-mi-nes-cence! And then my dad and I went on a trip to the EAC to see my friend Squirt the sea turtle, and we rode the EAC! I want to be a sea turtle when I grow up. But now I’m back here! Dr. Grant said you were going to come back and help me go around! I like going around with you! Can we go down to the lake? I like going down to the lake!”
Domino checked the level of kibble in their tribble kibble tub, lifted Loo-loo-doo-moh out of the Furby pen, and set him on the sled behind the tank. Orca opened his eyes slowly, jumped down from the windowsill and sauntered over to the sled.
Domino nodded to Nemo, picked up the sled handle and began to lead his charges down toward the lake. Nemo continued to tell his stories as the pets chirped or chattered or purred from behind the tank The sun shone as the small entourage meandered across the meadow.
A house-elf’s primary mission is to serve, and Domino was happy to serve in this way.
((Grant’s involvement is mun-approved. Come say hi to Nemo!))

Date: 2009-03-30 05:13 pm (UTC)"You look like a seaweed with a yellow nemma-mena-mo-nee on top!" If Sunflora looked in the corner of Nemo's tank, she'd see a small pink anemone: Nemo's natural home. "But you're talking! I didn't know seaweed or ann-o-ma-nammano-mees could talk!" This, from the talking clownfish.
"What's a Seaking?" Nemo asked. "I'm Nemo. What's your name?"

"That sounds like me! Is a Po-ke-mon a kind of fish? I'm a clownfish. My dad says we don't have to be really funny or like jokes, just 'cuz we're called clownfish, but I like funny jokes anyway!"
"I haven't seen you before. You must be new here. Why did you decide to come here? Have you made any friends? I have lots of friends here, but I've been away, visiting my dad. I haven't seen them in a while!"

"I don't know A. Is he a grown-up? My favorite grown-up friend here is Dr. Grant. He's like a daddy but he isn't really one. Do you wanna be my friend?"

Date: 2009-03-31 02:13 am (UTC)She beamed at Nemo's question. "Of course I'll be your friend!"
no subject
Date: 2009-03-31 02:22 am (UTC)Oh! So Sunflora doesn't understand what grown-up means? This begs a vital question. "Do you have a dad or a mom?"
Nemo does a backwards underwater somersault at Sunflora's beaming smile. "Friends do fun things together! What fun things do you like? I like to color pictures!"

Date: 2009-03-31 02:28 am (UTC)Sunflora furrowed her non-existent brow. "No....I hatched from an egg when I was a Sunkern." Then she brightened. "I like trying food! And exploring!"

Date: 2009-03-31 12:12 pm (UTC)"What's a Sunkern? I like exploring! Once I went exploring in the lake with Dr. Maturin!"
((It might take a while for me to respond; it'll be a busy workday for me.))

"I like helping friends. I like drawing pictures, too. Do you like to draw pictures?"

Date: 2009-04-01 02:58 pm (UTC)"I draw sometimes. It's fun!"
no subject
Date: 2009-04-07 01:48 pm (UTC)Nemo thought about this. "Before I was a baby, I was in an egg. But my egg got bruised, so now I have a little fin."
"Do you wanna draw together?" Nemo smiled. "We could do that! I like to draw! That is something friends can do together!"

Date: 2009-04-07 11:53 pm (UTC)Nemo asked, "Domino, could you?" and the house elf obligingly twitched his ears and winked. Nemo tumbled to the ground as a small human boy.
He reached out and took Furryfurrysoft out of her cage, petting her gently while he waited for Sunflora to return with the paper.
((Would you want Sunflora to have witnessed the transformation? It doesn't much matter to me when in that little narrator-monologue she takes off. :-) ))

Date: 2009-04-08 03:27 am (UTC)"Why do you want to be human? I didn't like it when I was one."
no subject
Date: 2009-04-08 12:05 pm (UTC)Then he considered Sunflora's question.
"Cuz when I'm human I can pet Furryfurrysoft and Orca, and I can draw pictures, and I can walk around by myself without Domino to take me places," he explained.
Nemo reached out for a piece of paper, and Domino handed him a box of crayons.

Date: 2009-04-09 02:00 am (UTC)"You attack? How? Why?" Nemo busily started drawing. His orange crayon was the most worn down, and now he was using the yellow and green crayons too.
"Are there scary-gonna-eat-me's where you come from? There are where I come from. A scary-gonna-eat-me ate my mom when I was still an egg. But my nemmo-menna-mo-nee keeps me safe! It stings the scary-gonna-eat-me's, but it doesn't sting me!" Nemo had continued to draw throughout this monologue.

Date: 2009-04-09 12:46 pm (UTC)"Wow!" Nemo exclaimed.
Nemo tossed a piece of paper up into the air, jumped up and slashed at it with one of his hands in a karate-chop-style move. The paper, unimpressed, floated to the ground in one piece.
