So, the talking hat (which was somehow more intimidating than a talking fridge) had placed Satou in Ravenclaw. The trouble was,he had no idea what that meant, and the bizarre little bug-eyed big-eared creatures he'd seen scuttling around unnerved him too much to try and ask.

He had, however, taken Kurama's promise of free room and board to heart, and a bit of wandering had lead him to the Great Hall, which happened to have a modest buffet laid out. Jackpot! Before anyone could tell him he couldn't, he took a plate and began piling on fish and chips (mostly fish).

That was the board part seen to. Now he needed to sort out the room.

"And you're bigger and stronger, too," Satou observed. It must be nice to be able to change between small and sleek and (comparatively) large and strong.

Yeah! Wishbone turned back into a dog. I can protect Schrodinger and Einstein and Branch and Bloom better as a dog!

"Are those the cats? Do the other cats have someone else to protect them?"

Well, yeah! Branch and Bloom have River, and Kusuriyuri has a cat too so he can protect them, and so does Kurama, and A and Near and Mello and L and Matt help too! Wishbone sat up straight. But I'm their knight!

"You're a dog, and a cat, and a knight?"

Well, metaphorically, I'm their knight. And sometimes when I play I like to pretend I'm one for real. But I will! I'll hurt someone if they hurt my friends!

"that makes you a good friend," he said thoughtfully. Wasn't that what friends were supposed to do?

Yes! And they're good friends to me.

"Do they protect you?"

Well, they're younger. And Branch and Bloom are tiny. But I think Schrodinger and Einstein would protect me. Schrodinger always watched out for me when I was hurt, making sure I didn't hurt myself further.

"Schrodinger is a funny name for a cat," he said cautiously.

I like it! Wishbone said in an indignant voice. It suits her!

"I mean, it's a science joke," he explained apologetically.

It still suits her! Wishbone glared.

"I'm sure it does!" Satou said, alarmed, raising hiss hands in a placating gesture.

It does! But Wishbone drops it in favor of finishing his food.
