Mysteries abound... ((Open RP, L, Great Hall))

L had seen many things in his time here at Hogwarts. Many things he was sure he'd never see...some things he'd like to unsee.

He'd seen Kusuriyuri walking with an injury on his back. That had startled him. He almost stopped him but figured the peddler was going to get attention. He wondered if he should check in on him since it'd been a couple of days. He hadn't seen Kusuriyuri laying around in the halls (not that he'd really checked or anything, but he had wandered the halls...not making sure. He didn't like the peddler, but A respected him, so...).

He'd seen Mello stomping around, looking pissed at the world, but that was nothing new.

He went to the Great Hall, ordering a cheesecake with strawberries, and thought, crouching on one of the benches.

Maybe he should owl Near? Their relationship, while uneasy, was at least almost comfortable in it's familiarity. Or maybe he should owl Light? They were supposed to play tennis, not that it was a good time of year to play, but he had heard of the Room of Requirement. Maybe he should owl Mello, just for the intellectual stimulation of arguing with the blond? Maybe he should owl A and see about watching cartoons or some simple pleasure?

Or, he could enjoy his cheesecake.

L pressed his thumb to his mouth. After a moment's consideration, he asked, "What would be the full list you'd suggest?"

"Aside from his name, any spells dealing with capture or paralysis. Or with disarming. If you could generalize it and just forbid him from speaking any latin, I should say do that, but I'm guessing the spell doesn't cover that wide a generality." He sighed. "Kusu will begin work on wards specific for Karasu, and I will find ways to keep him in check as well."

L frowned. "Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the spell. Mello found it, presumably while he was in the restricted section. I don't know entirely what the parameters are." He didn't like that.

"A permanent silence spell would be something to look in to..." Kurama would not admit out loud his suggestions were partially his being vindictive, but there was no arguing Karasu deserved it. "Or something to disable his use of magic."

L frowned again. "I don't recall such from what I read in the library." And, though it galled him to say so, "Mello read most of the restricted section, so he would know what's there. He also tends toward the orgins of things, which is sometimes helpful. Near and Matt are good with synthesis," he added to soothe his own nerves.

"So if there is something not immediately available, customizations can be made?" Combining that with Kusuriyuri's charms and his own abilities with plant magic, there could be hope of keeping Karasu on a leash yet.

L nodded. "Matt has worked on combining what he's learned from Kusuriyuri, Wednesday, the books. The experiments aren't always successful, but he is as stubborn as the rest of us."

"That's something, at least." He grew quiet again, thinking. "I could always slip some PCP into his food..." though it would probably end very, very badly. But then there was a chance Karasu would think he could fly and try to demonstrate.

L considered a moment, and then, pressing agaist the corner of his mouth with his thumb, asked, "Is that really the worst you can come up with?"

"No, but it would be the most fun to watch." He sighed, resting his chin on his hand.
"I could trap him in a sinning tree, but it would have to be far from where anyone would be able to hear the screaming."

"I would have been disappointed otherwise," he said, taking a bite of the cheesecake.

"That wouldn't do at all," he grinned. "There are other options, but all of them difficult to execute, at least by me. He knows what tricks to watch out for when it comes to my usage of plants. If I were to trap him, I wouldn't be able to do it alone."

L considered a moment. "Matt also knows silent charms and wandless magic." He looked up at the ceiling, his thumb still at the corner of his mouth. "I have practiced hexes with A." L smiled. "He hexed Mello twice for insulting me." He looked back at Kurama. A way of getting information to each other, to know when help is needed. This I have read of. I'll look into it again."

"I'd appreciate the help. I'd much rather be your ally than otherwise."

L regarded Kurama. "This place makes for odd allies," he said. And odd bed partners. "A thinks highly of you and he doesn't seem to be suffering for it."

"I don't want him to suffer for my training." He spread his hands, as revealing cards on a table. "Given my druthers, I'd prefer just teaching him how to make plants grow faster and healthier. That teaching him how to use them as weapons has become a necessity seems... unfair to him." He had hope that, with B gone, it wouldn't have been an issue.

L picked up his fork and speared a strawberry on it. "I rarely see...saw anyone but Watari and yet I still had to know self-defense. I would rather him not have to turn something he loves into a weapon, but if that is what is needed."

"I'm trying to make him think of it as defense, use plants that are already equipped to take care of themselves. Hopefully, that will make it easier for him to use the defenses for himself, instead of having to go into the greenhouse and wonder if he's going to have to kill someone with a sprig of cilantro." Which he could, but neither L nor A really needed to know that.

L looked at Kurama blankly. Cilantro wasn't really in his vocabulary. "He could kill someone by giving them something to eat they were allergic to," he said blandly. "He hardly needs to manipulate the plant for that."

And now he could see why Mello didn't like L.
"So simple, that. I'll ask Karasu what food he's allergic to next time we have a friendly chat."

"If you think he'll tell you," L said, returning his attention to his cheesecake. "However, with the no kill zone on the school, that seems an exercise in futility. Though, we never did find out if it was the grounds or the student status here that was the cause."

"Are you volunteering time to find out? I'm sure there's someone here who would be relatively easy to abduct and murder off school grounds." His tone may have been a little too saccharine.

L looked at Kurama, his fork in his mouth. "I didn't have anyone particular in mind," he said, the fork still in his mouth.

"It doesn't have to be anyone in particular." His smile widened. "Just nab anyone, give 'em a good clunk on the head. Shouldn't be too hard to float them off campus, have a little fun, and see if the damage is permanent."

L regarded Kurama and took his fork out of his mouth to get another bite. "You have someone in mind?" he asked.
