Mysteries abound... ((Open RP, L, Great Hall))

L had seen many things in his time here at Hogwarts. Many things he was sure he'd never see...some things he'd like to unsee.

He'd seen Kusuriyuri walking with an injury on his back. That had startled him. He almost stopped him but figured the peddler was going to get attention. He wondered if he should check in on him since it'd been a couple of days. He hadn't seen Kusuriyuri laying around in the halls (not that he'd really checked or anything, but he had wandered the halls...not making sure. He didn't like the peddler, but A respected him, so...).

He'd seen Mello stomping around, looking pissed at the world, but that was nothing new.

He went to the Great Hall, ordering a cheesecake with strawberries, and thought, crouching on one of the benches.

Maybe he should owl Near? Their relationship, while uneasy, was at least almost comfortable in it's familiarity. Or maybe he should owl Light? They were supposed to play tennis, not that it was a good time of year to play, but he had heard of the Room of Requirement. Maybe he should owl Mello, just for the intellectual stimulation of arguing with the blond? Maybe he should owl A and see about watching cartoons or some simple pleasure?

Or, he could enjoy his cheesecake.

Turlough had come in for his food run. He stopped momentarily at seeing Ryuzaki. Now, Turlough was not a sociable person. But at least he's on cordial terms with Ryuzaki (though it may at least partially have to do with A).

So he waved a hello at Ryuzaki.

L waved his fork at Turlough. This, for him, while eating, was remarkably polite. Whether anyone else agreed was questionable.

"I half expected you to beg A to make something from his battle." Turlough leaned against another table.

"Beg?" L asked with a smile. "The cupcakes looked good, and the ice cream," he said. "It is an idea."

"Your reputation precedes you. In respect of strawberry anyway. One would think that was your drug, from what I've heard."

"Sugar is very important to brain function," L explained without rancor. "Strawberries also have calcium, magnesium, potassium and folate, which are beneficial to brain function."

"Man cannot live on strawberries alone, though undoubtedly you try."

"There is cheesecake, too," L said. "And A manages to get me to eat vegetables."

"Alert the media. It's an intergalactic incident," Turlough said in a deadpan voice.

"I think there were comments like that before," L said amiably with his fork in his mouth.

"Then perhaps in the future, you're as well known in history as...well, who's an earth person...Einstein, then".

L smiled slightly. "Not if I do my job properly. If I do, no one will know, save those in high places."

"Santa Claus then. No one will know for certain if you were real or fake, but they'll tout the legend of you all the same."

It too a moment for L to get the reference. "Perhaps," he said a slight smile on his lips. "An interesting idea.

"I can see it now. Earth, 3009. People greet each other in the street. As they leave they say "Happy Ryuzaki Day!" He grinned.

L returned the grin. "Celebrated with strawberry cheesecake," he added in an attempt to join in the humor.

"Well, of course. It's traditional, after all."

L pressed his thumb to the corner of his mouth. "And, do you have a suggestion for a day?" he asked. The idea was amusing, though he'd never actually want it to happen.

"I dunno, when's your birthday?"

"Birthday?" L asked blankly. He had to think about that a moment. "No, I don't think that'll work. It's not that important to me."

"Well, I'm out of ideas, then. What should we do, open a calender and point to a random date?"

"That might work," L said. "Or, it could be like Easter and move every year."

"Fine, first Thursday in November, I don't care."

L nodded. "A world-wide day for cheesecake." He grinned a little. "I wonder if Saint Nicholas gave as much thought to his day?"

"He probably thought the world made too much of him." Turlough certainly thought that.
