[Closed, A and Wishbone] Valentines Treats

In a small room (so small no human could sleep in there) there was a pile of pillows. Rustling. A head popped out.

Wishbone had been hiding in there since meeting Karasu, who had spooked him. He had tried to be brave, but that guy was SCARY.

But it's been a few hours. Wishbone was calmer now. And now he knows right off to run away. Unless his friends were in trouble.

Wishbone had a little calender and he looked at it.

OH BOY VALENTINE'S DAY he cried, and promptly tumbled out of his pillow fort.

He had snuck into town and gotten special treats for Schrodinger for today. (Well, Einstein can have them too, but Schrodinger was special.) Wishbone picked up the little bag and snuck over to A's door, planning only to leave them at the door.

Unfortunately for him, he was so eager about them, his tail was wagging and thumping at the door.

A had taken a shower, but not a very good one; stray drops of blood had clung to his hair and dried there, and there was blood under his nails. He'd changed into a set of pajamas (http://www.sleepyheads.com/Hello_Kitty_Sweet_Spot_Apples_Green_Long_John_Pajama) and a robe (http://www.robe.com/womens-robes/bath-robes/womensshadowflowerrobebytepperjackson.cfm) and was curled up on his bed staring into space when he heard the rustling at his door. Startled, he drew his wand before opening it a crack, and was immensely relieved to see only Wishbone.

"Oh," he said in a thankful sigh, "Oh, oh, it's you. Come in."

Wishbone's head shot up. NO I wasn't leaving treats for Schrodinger for Valentine's Day!

A couldn't help laughing, even as rattled as he was. Catching her name, Scrodinger jumped down off the computer desk and made a playful half-pounce toward Wishbone.

Wishbone laughed as he was tackled by the cat. So much for a surprise, huh? He brought the treats in and jumped up on the bed.

"I am sure she is very surprised." He patted Wishbone's back. "She is certainly glad to see you. She thinks of you as a very good friend."

I wanted to get her something. Wishbone covered his nose with his paw. Einstein can have some too, if he wants.

"I'm sure he will be thankful," A told him. "Schrodinger is already thanking you."

And by 'thanking', he meant 'gnawing on Wishbone's tail'.

Dang it, A, he was trying not to flick it in her face, but you had to remind him of it!

He wagged his tail, no doubt makinga good toy for Schrodinger.

A good toy indeed; with a happy little mock-growl, she tried to pin it down against the bed.

"She wishes you a happy Valentine's Day also."

Yes! Happy Valentine's Day Schrodinger! Wishbone wagged his tail in delight and fun.

This was much better than what happened yesterday.

"And Happy Valentine's Day, Wishbone." He gave the dog a scratch behind the ears as Einstein looked up from his place of honor on A's pillow with a meow of sleepy greeting.

Hi Einstein! Happy Valentine's Day to you too! Wishbone said as he closed his eyes and wagged harder. He sniffed idly. He smelled something odd.

"I didn't realize Valentine's Day was a holiday for pets too, or I would have made heart shaped liver treats."

Well, why not? I always saw Joe give Valentines to his classmates, and I wanted to give some too! Wishbone sat up, sniffing close to A's hand. I smell something odd.

"What do you smell?" A looked a little alarmed. Was something wrong?

It kinda smells like blood.

"Blood," A said with a whimper. There had been quite a bit of blood when he slit that applicant's throat... but it had healed up, healed up without a trace.

A? Wishbone looked worried. Are you okay?

"I just..." He fidgeted, looking uneasy. He certainly didn't want to burden Wishbone with his fears! "The, oh, the new applicant. He's not right."

Wishbone lied down. He's scary.

"I don't like him," A whispered. An understatement and an oversimplification, but very true.

I don't like him either. And if he tries to hurt my friends I'll bite him!

"Be careful," A warned him. "I would feel badly if he hurt you."

But I don't want him to hurt you! Or Near or Mello or Einstein or Schrodinger! And Wishbone even stood protectively in front of Schrodinger.

"There are more of us than there are of him," he said with a confidence he didn't feel. "If he tried to hurt any of us we will make it bad for him."

Yes! Wishbone look determined. I won't be scared if my friends are with me!

"You're very brave, Wishbone," A said fondly. "Everyone should be as brave as you are."

Well, I don't want my friends hurt! Schrodinger ruined whatever Wishbone was going to say next by pouncing on Wishbone.

"And Schrodinger doesn't want you sad," A said, giving the cat's tail an affectionate tweak.

I don't want her sad either. He has no problem wrestling her, though.
