The walls of the castle seem more confining than usual. Though he is usually adept at avoiding the wanderlust-feeling, a holdover from his most recent occupation, there are days that Kusuriyuri just needs to be outside, to feel the plants, the sun, the earth and hear the water near by, to taste it in the air. He needs to reconnect to the elements around him that make up his world, his power.

Picking up his case, he finds a house elf and politely requests the creature deliver a note to his student for him. The way they fall over themselves when he asks anything is almost amusing, almost sad. His note en route, he heads outside to his student's pride and joy, his garden and new greenhouse.

The contents of the note are as follows:
Deshi,
Today, let us meet outside for the elements call to me.
Kusuriyuri.

Kusuriyuri smirks slightly. "So, he turned something bad into a benefit, then? That is good." He looks at A compassionately. "Perhaps you can learn to do such? Instead of reaching for your wand, find a path that is beneficial?" It will take practice and a quite a bit of coaching, but perhaps, if not haggling, A will be able to turn things a little more to his favor. "You do not need to do as Mello did exactly."

"But he insulted using plants for medicine. Insulted you."

Ah, the sticking point then, Kusuiryuri thinks softly. "If someone wishes to be ignorant, can there really be any help for them? If they do not wish to change, can anything really be done?"

"It's not right. Not right that someone should insult you."

A is quick to spring to the defense of those he admires.

Kusuriyuri reaches out for A's arm. "I have been in jail before, deshi. It is nothing much. What matters is what you know. Not every one will believe what you know, deshi. There is no need to force them."

"But I don't like it," A whispers, more in explanation than defiance.

Kusuriyuri tipped his head. "In your garden, the plants do not pick what they grow near. But, they grow, nonetheless, do they not?"

A nods. "They grow. I care for them, and they grow."

"Indeed, and they grow well." He glances at the garden, lush and full.

He turns back to A. "You do not have to like it. What matters is that you do not react poorly, is that not so?"

"I, I'll try." A bows his head again. He wants Kusuriyuri to be pleased with him, not to have to correct him.

"That is what I ask, deshi." He touches A's arm. "Effort, improvement. I do not demand more than that. And, you do that very well." A has earned the praise.

He reaches over and lifts A's chin. "Show me your greenhouse?"

A smiles, somewhat reassured.

"There is something here that you will like," A tells Kusuriyuri, leading him through the floral room into the central room, where the mikan, lemon, and lime trees are.

The enclosed smell of earth and plants relaxes and energizes Kusuriyuri. When he sees the mikan, he touches the trunk. "It will grow here," he murmurs. He glances around the room, amused when he sees a pot of catnip in the corner.

"Here is good," he says decisively.

The approval makes A's smile widen. "I knew you would be pleased, when you saw it. It is old enough to bear fruit."

Barely, but it is.

"And it's fruit will be good," he murmurs. "It is a strong tree."

He turns to A, glancing at the ground. It's clean enough. "Are you ready?" he asks. "Or is there more to talk of?"

"I am ready," A tells him softly. There are no pressing matters, and idle chat about the plants can happen any time.

"Then, let us begin," Kusuriyuri murmurs, kneeling beside the mikan. He looks up. "Unless you prefer inside?"

"This is a good place." A sits, then lies down, in front of him. The plants make him feel energized as well.

Kusuriyuri reaches out energetically, feeling the plants supporting him. He is not surprised to feel the same support within A as well. A gentle circuit, looking for tangles and snarls they have worked out before, making sure they have not returned, strengthening the flow of energy there.

The largest of the knots are significantly smaller than when they began. He is pleased and begins untangling the flow of energy, at times almost having it corrected, but long habit keeps it from staying so.

It's even more soothing than usual, lying on the floor of the greenhouse and feeling his energy currents being smoothed and prodded. He has the odd sensation, disorienting but not unpleasant, that he is being tended like a plant.

After a bit more of soothing energy into proper channels and holding it there, giving it a chance to become familiar with those paths, Kusuriyuri allows the energy to flow where it will. Thought it returns mostly to its previous state, the return is slow, thick mud filling a whole, and incomplete, rather than water rushing in. He remains a moment longer, to observe. But, the return remains incomplete.

Withdrawing, he nods. He feels less drained than he has in his room. "Perhaps we should continue out here," he murmurs when he believes A is in a state to answer him.

"Here," A echoes, sounding just a little distant and dreamlike. "I like that, being here. It was almost... It was like I could feel the plants."

"It is good for you," Kusuriyuri agrees. "The plants are good," he adds.

He reaches over and brushes A's hair out of his eyes. "Deshi has come a long way." There is warmth in his voice.

"I'm learning so much from you," A says with affection and respect. "You... you've done so much for me. Thank you, oh, thank you."

Kusuriyuri waves the praise aside even as he enjoys it. "I am only a medicine peddler," he murmurs. "It is what is done. Deshi has done much."
