((Mikami is taken from the final volume/episode, right after he writes everyone's name down but before finding out that the notebook he has is fake. This was purely so he'd know who Light and Near are.

He has the shinigami eyes. If he looks at someone's face, he can see their name and remaining lifespan. He probably won't mention this out loud, but if your character is dead, immortal, using an alias or has some other weirdness going on, please leave an OOC note so I can have him react to it. Thanks.))

He flung open the door of the Sorting Room, the manic grin on his face quickly vanishing as he realised that something was wrong. This was not the warehouse. This was not where he'd expected to be. More importantly, it wasn't where God had instructed him to be.

Unless this was a part of the plan he hadn't been told about, which was possible. God had never spontaneously transported him anywhere before, but that didn't mean it wasn't within his power. Or maybe this was the work of the enemy Nate River. Mikami hadn't been told anything to suggest that he had this kind of power, but it wouldn't be wise to rule it out completely.

The Notebook was still in his hand. He hastily slipped it into an inner pocket of his coat, disguising the gesture by taking his glasses out of the same pocket and putting them back on. He felt more secure with them anyway, even though he didn't need them to see any more.

Now, where was he? He looked round the room, keeping his expression carefully blank. There was a table in the centre of the room, with a quill and a sheet of paper resting on it. He walked over, and read the first question.

1. What is your favorite cheese? Why is it your favorite?

He frowned. "Emmenthal, I suppose, but what does that have to do with anything...?"

He trailed off as the quill stood up and began writing down his words. Well, he'd already known there were supernatural forces at work here. This just confirmed it.

2. Who would you kill first, Barney or Carrottop?

...were they mocking him?

It could be a test. If God was still unable to move freely he might send a message this way, using the apparent absurdity of the question as a smokescreen. Or it could be a trap set by his enemies, waiting to see how Mikami would react, what he might give away. He'd have to be cautious.

"I'd like to make it clear that I have no intention of committing murder." Perfectly true. Execution wasn't murder. "But in the hypothetical event of my having to choose, Carrottop. Barney at least aspires to some educational value."

3. What time is it where you are?

He answered without looking at his watch. "1:34 pm." And at least forty seconds, by now...

4. If you were Albus Dumbledore returned from the dead, which member of the Order of the Phoenix would you sexually harass? How would you harass them? If you are Albus Dumbledore, please answer as if you were Sirius Black.

For a second, for just a second, Mikami's neutral expression vanished, shock and disgust and rage all at once twisting his features. He shut his eyes, breathing deeply, forcing himself to regain control. It was vital that he didn't show weakness. This was clearly the work of God's enemies, a deliberate attempt to provoke him, and a reaction like that would play straight into their hands.

(but how dare they, how dare they insinuate that he would do that, he was God's right hand, he was pure and righteous and chosen and they were the ones who...)

"I would not," he answered, voice quiet but cold, "ever commit such an act. And I have no idea who this 'Albus Dumbledore' is." But by the sound of things, he'd earned his death.

5. If you are pushing to be in:

A. Slytherin - please state the clever, witty name of the bar in which you bartend, in the dark.

"...I don't drink." Moving on.

B. Gryffindor – Debate whether Harry should ultimately end up married to Fred or George. Use examples from a variety of world mythologies to bolster your argument.

"I don't know who any of those people are either. And I'm not interested in their personal lives."

C. Ravenclaw – You guys are supposed to be smart. Explain why my desk is inundated with paperwork at all times, even though I’m constantly disposing of it.

At least this one seemed to have a sensible answer. He frowned. "Either your job is one that simply requires you to deal with constant paperwork, or you're hopelessly inefficient and don't have a proper routine for managing it. Or both. Either way, I suggest you stop whining and get on with it."

D. Hufflepuff – Prove you are not useless.

He smiled, briefly, a strange, distant look in his eyes. Oh, he was far from useless. God had seen how he'd fought for righteousness, how he'd been taunted and humiliated and abused and never, never given in, and he had come to the earth to purify it, to eliminate all the scum who thought it their right to harm the innocent. And out of all Kira's followers God had chosen him, chosen Teru Mikami to help him in his work. God had granted him divine power...

He couldn't put that on the form, of course.

"I'm a sucessful prosecuting attorney." He paused, and when he spoke again his voice was different, softer, genuine passion in his words. "I have dedicated my life to the pursuit of justice."

6. Offer a bribe to the members of this community so that they will not squib you. Items used in bribery do not necessarily have to belong to the person offering the bribe. Do not threaten us rather than offering a bribe. A threat indicates you either don't really want to be here, or don't have enough sense to answer the question properly. The hat will automatically squib you, regardless of other votes, if you do.

He didn't bother trying to hide his anger this time. This was ridiculous. "Given that your organisation is so blatantly corrupt, I rather think I don't want to be here. In any case, all I have on me is my wallet, my cellphone, and a pen." And the Notebook, but he'd write his own name in it before he gave that up.

"I have read the hogwarts_hocus faq, and understand it is a crazy, cracktastic sorting community and RPG. _Teru Mikami_
I have read the hogwarts_hocus rules and agree to abide by each and every one of them. _Teru Mikami_.
I agree to be a good sport and not get my knickers in a bunch. _Teru Mikami_.
One day, marmalade justice will rule the world. _Teru Mikami_"

"Now, would somebody please explain to me where I am?"

He hadn't expected this. Mikami is taller than him, and stronger, and it can't have taken much effort for him to slam a skinny little thing like Matt against the wall like that.

"Fuck --"

Deep breaths. He's too panicky a fighter (and still too new to the self-defense that Mello's been teaching him) to simply start something, so he begins with,

"You need to get the fuck off of me. Now." You crazy bastard, he doesn't add.

Pushing Matt away sends him back into the wall, of course, though this time it catches his shoulder rather than the back of his head. "And what're you going to do? Write my name down? It doesn't work here, even if -" He catches himself before he can finish the sentence; this guy has the Eyes, doesn't he? X-Kira? Fuck.

"And like fuck," enunciating the curse word carefully, "am I going to say anything less about the fuck who murdered - who murdered my friends. I've met him. He's a spoiled, smug little shit who thinks he's got the right to rearrange the entire world to his liking. If he didn't have that Notebook he'd be nothing."

Which was probably a stupid thing to say to an enraged psycho, but whatever.

Normally this would make Matt roll his eyes. It was the sort of thing he heard when he was a kid; when he was six, seven, eight years old, and all there was was training and learning and hoping to god that one day he'd be L, one day he'd be Justice. It was the kind of thing that made him think of childish desperation and resentment and being moulded a little too vigorously until one day he'd realised that maybe Justice wasn't really for him - that he could want other things, want to be someone else.

But somehow it's different this time. Maybe it's having his name thrown at him like a weapon, again. Maybe it's the fact this guy could very well have been involved in his own death - in Mello's death. Maybe he's just been spending too much time with L. Matt finds himself saying,

"Yeah. It fucking does. And guess who's one the right side? Here's a hint, it's the one who's not a fucking murderer."

Matt steps back sharply, flinching, when Mikami looks like he's about to strike.

Of course, then he doesn't, and Matt's left looking like an idiot. Dammit.

"I don't even know why I'm having this argument. I didn't give a shit one way or another when I was alive. But if you're stupid enough to think that criminals didn't just get smarter then - fuck, d'you know how much a mobster will pay to get their child's criminal records hacked and altered? A businessman? A politician? A fucking lot. If you think your little Kira-sama's infallible, think about that."

"Yeah? You know what, I'd believe that a little more if you weren't relying on resentful people on the internet flinging around accusations. Real tight system you've got there."
