The Unpopcorning of Light Yagami. Open RP

Awareness was the first thing to come to Light, but it might as well not have because the only thing that came forth was nothingness. Am I dead?, crosses the mind briefly before descending back to nothing. It feels cramped in this space, but also as if it goes on forever. That doesn't make sense, but it is all there is to feel. Memories float back lazily like clouds, but of where Light Yagami is currently or what he did just before escapes him. The last thing he remembers is finding out that Yotsuba has been proffiting off of Kira's power. Then, hearing comes back with the sound of a great

POP!

Suddenly there is floor under him, and butter all over him. Light lifts his head and sight returns just before the smell and taste of butter overpowers everything momentarily. Once he get's over the fact that there is butter everywhere, Light takes a moment to check the rest of himself over. His hair is a mess, and he is wearing a green sweater with the Slytherin insignia on it that goes well with the green socks and black shoes on his feet, although the socks are covered by tan pants. On one wrist there is a waterproof (hopefully butter proof too) watch, the other has a handcuff locked on it. Light's eyes trail down the chain of the handcuffs, only to find that Ryuzaki is nowhere to be found.

"Is this another test, Ryuzaki?" Light wonders aloud as he stands up to see if the door of this room is locked. It wouldn't surprise him if this was a test, as Ryuzaki already seems to be off his rocker about certain things, but it also would be unsurprising if this wasn't L's doing. Wouldn't he be covered in something sweeter than butter if this was L's idea? Then again if not L then...?

The door is unlocked, so Light wanders into the hallway in search of a washroom or Ryuzaki, whichever is found first. The chain drags along the floor behind him, but his buttery footprints already cover the castle floor so Light doesn't bother to pick it up as he goes in a random direction.

"I don't know how I loose yet, but a memory charm sounds like a brillant idea," there is no malicious intent in what he says, and being able to forget this place and time would probably be best.

"Why would you want to put yourself under the charm, wouldn't it be better for you to know? Or perhaps the situation could not be helped even if you knew?" Ryuzaki always knew, it was just a matter of proof. The knowledge Ryuzaki gained here must have given him some form of proof he could use when they go back.

Matt... agrees with Light, on this one. He's not exactly versed in the intricacies of the Death Note, having come into the case at the very end, but the innocent 'act' is pissing him off.

"He's got a point," he admits. A little reluctantly. There will be extra glaring to make up for it.

"Because the only thing that matters is that Kira's reign not be continued. It is a threat to the fundamental principles of justice. It will create an unprecedented rule of terror. It is totalitarian, it is violent, and it is wrong. More than that; when the laws of any society are too rigid for any sort of deviance to be permitted, then they lose their ability to create social change. It would literally mean the stagnation of culture and the end of freedom."

L thumbs his bottom lip.

"We know that we defeat him. The slightest thing cannot be altered. Even a risk margin of less than one percent is unacceptable. This goal is paramount."

"So you fear that if you change one thing the resule will flip the perverbeal coin, and that Kira would win in out the end. Even though you'd have something over me that I did not know, as I had something over you."

It makes sense, and is very brave of L to accept death than chance the end result.

"I wouldn't want to change our time together; for the most part it was fun. Although my end isn't something I can be happy about," when L got depressed over not being able to prove Light as Kira pissed him off though.

"Dude," Matt says, ignoring Light for now, "you've got more information this way. Surely that's enough to..."

Because it's nice winning the war, obviously, but having the battles in the bag would be good too.

He doesn't want L to die.

"It was fun?" Matt asks Light, incredulous. "... you're fucking shameless, you know that?"

"We played tennis, and worked together on the case that was fun," plotting murder and creating a new world doesn't sound as enjoyable to Light, but Kira most likely saw it differently.

"I do like tennis."

L is sort of with Matt on that one. The 'it's fun' comment, not the information thing. Although he is 98% convinced that it's necessary (with 1.5% of regret for Matt's death, and 0.5% worth of regret for Mello's) he's fairly sure that it isn't going to be fun.

"He might honestly not remember, Matt." Still, as they walk, he's veering closer to his friend. The one who isn't also an enemy.

Matt needs to bite down on his tongue at that. Because exclaiming that he doesn't care what Light remembers, he still kills L, still kills Mello, and still almost kills Near probably isn't a great way to keep L's composure.

So he stays silent. He's only there for L anyway.

"You actually made tennis a challange for me to win, Ryuzaki," he quit his school team because it was boring. "And I don't remember being Kira at all."

Light had just ignored those memory gaps as he had work to do on the investigation.

"I used to play competitively."

He's told Matt this, he thinks. It was something he enjoyed.

"It must have been an interesting game, Light."

"You said as much; winning England's Junior Championship," it had surprised him at first and made Light wonder if L grew up in England. L did, for about five years though.

"It was, you didn't hold back even for a warmup shot. By the end of the game a whole crowd had shown up from the university we were attending," that didn't matter to Light though because he was being accused of being Kira.

"To have a hope of winning, one needs to move first, and decisively." He's always maintained that a strong defence is no substitute for a good offence.

"When did you learn?"

"I learned how to play tennis when I was five. Does Hogwarts have a court? I wouldn't mind playing again," anybody could work as long as there was a challange in the game.

"It has a dojo, I do not see why it should not have a tennis court. My ankle is solid enough for me to play again, I believe."

Even after the little fight with Mello.

"I hope it isn't to far from a place we can get refreshments after, I'm probably not as fit as I was when we had that match. For me, it has been a few months since," and I spent fifty or so days with my hands locked behind my back.

"House elves are usually willing to deliver such things. Rest assured, I am likely less fit to play tennis now as I would be then."

What with the sparring they've been doing. Mello and he do not go easy on each other.

A good battle is one where there is no clear victor, this match will definatly be enjoyable.

"I hope so." He clears his throat. "I should brace you. There are people here who will react negatively to your presence, besides myself and Matt."

"Perhaps if we were on friendlier terms they wouldn't act so negatively?" L and Matt were not the first Light has encountered today, so he already knows about some negativity. "I do not know if we were ever friends though. You said I was your first, but I didn't believe you."

... okay, objecting to that would just be childish. Really childish.

"Perhaps if you hadn't killed half of us we wouldn't be so negative," he settles for, instead.

"Friends or not, they do have grounds of their own," L admits, chewing on his thumb.

"You will probably be my first friend that I will remember. Do I make others?" It'd be sort of sad, if his only friend ever killed him.

"I don't expect them to have a total turnabout in their reactions, but it would probably help," Light muses. "Misa was your second friend. She was happy that you were including her in the investigation and actually kissed you on the cheek. You said you could fall for her if she kept that up."

Light laughes at the idea. Misa was too obsessed with him to ever seriously consider L, and Ryuzaki never seemed like the romantic type to him.

"Misa Amane? The second Kira?"

Of the entire investigation, Matt knows most related to Misa. He did help spy on her, after all.

He's also beginning to wonder whether Light is deliberately trying to piss him off.

"I do not have very good luck with my choices of acquaintances in the future." Pause. "No offence to you, Light."

But really.

"You will have to lend me some patience, but given time to absorb the idea, perhaps we will be able to know each other. I doubt I will become romantically entangled with Misa, though."

"No offence taken. Misa didn't want to be with you romantically either, being obsessed with me. Besides, she thought you were a homosexual, because of these handcuffs," Light holds up his cuffed arm.
