With the knowledge that L is willing to pay for any computer equipment he might need (which is a relief - he hadn't been looking forward to attempting to get his hands on someone's credit card while shopping with the world's greatest detective), Matt had gone to Hogsmeade and used the last of his money to purchase a wand.

Now he needs to find out what to do with it.

So, he's heading for the library. What he understands of wizarding culture suggests there isn't going to be much on cybermagic, but Matt isn't against figuring out things on his own.

Phoenix Wright was in a dilemma.

Nothing new, honestly, but this was slightly different from 'prove this guy innocent'.

He upset a little girl.

Granted, he upset her by telling the truth, but little kids don't want to hear that sometimes.

He seriously needed to smile.

So as Matt passed by, Phoenix called out "Don't turn your hair into cheese!"

Matt stopped, and blinked at the guy who'd called out to him.

"Don't... what?"

"Turn your hair into cheese. That happened to me once, and I felt like warning you." Phoenix explained with a sheepish grin.

"Oh. Stuff like that happen a lot here?" Matt supposed it would, what with the whole 'magical school' thing. "How did it happen?"

"Messed up a spell. I seem to do that a lot actually." Phoenix held out his hand. "Haven't seen you before. Phoenix Wright."

"Matt." He takes Phoenix's hand. If pressed, he'll claim his surname is Thomas. "I've not tried any spellcasting yet - well, apart from choosing my wand, I guess. That was pretty weird."

"It was, wasn't it? I'm not sure how I messed up the cheese spell, but make sure you pronounce things correctly. That's how I messed up the rain spell."

"Pronounce things properly. Got it." Matt actually quite liked languages, so he didn't think that would be too tricky. "What happened when you mis-pronounced the rain spell?"

"Oh, it rained all right. It just rained vodka instead of water. Wasn't so bad, some people actually WANTED to learn that."

"... I would totally not object to you teaching me that spell. My friend and I have got a lot of lost time to make up for."

"Heh, that's what they all say." Phoenix wrote down the spell. Both the proper one and below that, his fuckup.

"The second one's the vodka one. The first one is the proper spell."

"Awesome." Matt pocketed the spell with a grin. "I owe you one, man. So what house are you in? How'd you end up here?"

"Ravenclaw. Not sure how. But I think it was because Pearls came here."

"Same as me, then," Matt grinned. "Who's Pearls? A friend?"

"Sort of. She's the cousin of my former boss. She's kinda mad at me now."

"Really? What for?" Matt leans against a bookcase.

"She has the idea that her cousin and I are in love. I tried to break it as gently as possible that I wasn't interested in Maya that way, but she still took it hard."

"A matchmaker? Heh, that must have been fun."

"Not for me. It can get embarassing. Especially because it isn't true."

"Relationship stuff sucks, anyway. So you're in here to hide from the matchmaker? Think she'll let up now?"

"Mmmm. Maybe not. I don't know if she'll understand yet, she's only, what, eight? Plus, it's not like I can really explain why her cousin isn't my special someone, as she puts it."

Matt laughs. "Oh, I didn't realise you were talking about a kid! I guess kids would be a bit more stubborn about stuff like that..." He rummages as if to get a cigarette, then forces himself to stop. "So there's a particular reason why her cousin isn't?"

"I..."Phoenix blushed. "I kinda already have someone I like." Broad enough that it wasn't clear who cause the mun herself is undecided who. It's someone in Wrightverse, that's for damn sure.

"Ah. Well, say no more. Have you told the kid yet?"

Phoenix shook his head. "I'm not even sure if my person knows. I...we don't meet that often anymore."
