Even more interesting--the question seemed to anger her. Here was someone with a whole host of driving forces, some of them clearly conflicting. He didn't meet many of those, when he was 'working'; understandably, given the circumstances. His down time was the only time he could meet people who weren't focused on the immediate future.

My memory only goes back so far, and before I first started the Game there's absolutely nothing." He had a feeling that something rather awful must have happened to the giver of his ring--possibly even something he'd done. It would certainly make sense.
