So as far as Geoffrey knew, his production of Twelfth Night was well under way. No, really -- despite it having been weeks since his posters had been altered, he had somehow entirely failed to notice that the people who were signed up for the play were, in fact, signed up for a completely different one. This meant he was probably due for something of a surprise, today.
He'd cleared a large space in the Great Hall and tacked up a sign that said "Auditions here!" which he figured was enough decor. Pulling up three chairs -- one for himself, one for his stage manager, and one for Oliver... wait, make that two chairs -- he slouched down into his seat, rolled up his sleeves, and waited for the first arrival.
((This is primarily for people who are auditioning, but if you missed the signup and want to participate in the play, now's your chance!
Edit: So I figured we'd do one thread for each character, and they could read a little monologue and chat with Geoffrey and Bun-Bun if they liked. And please, feel free to mention A Midsummer Night's Dream. A lot. Geoffrey still has no idea that's what he's actually supposed to be working on.))

Date: 2007-07-17 04:20 am (UTC)Inside, he was mentally headdesking, but outwardly he simply stared for several long moments, his eyes huge, his mouth hanging open. There was... there was just so much, that was wrong with that. He felt like a little piece of theater had died just then, and with it, a piece of himself.
After an incredibly still and awkward silence, he finally cleared his throat and looked away, rubbing a hand over his slack jaw. "Well, then, uh... Tomo..." Jesus wept, what did you say to something like that? He was having trouble trying not to laugh. "Thanks for... for coming in." He hesitated. "What, um... what play was that" supposed to be "from?"

Date: 2007-07-17 11:41 am (UTC)Bun-Bun's laughter and the poleaxed look on Geoffrey's face were not lost on Tomo, and she practically beamed with pride. Hey, she'd been going for comedy, after all, and the director wasn't going to forget her anytime soon! Getting a part? Bah. It was ALL about the first impressions. You didn't have to be on stage to be famous. You had to memorize lines to be in a play anyway.
"Just something I grabbed from the library. It's, uh, Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet)," she said, reading off the book jacket and finally noticing the author's name. "by... Anne-Marie Macdonald? Oops. I guess Shakespeare didn't use 'Bullshit' as a battle cry, huh?" She rounded on the nearest house elf, who was snickering. "You oughta have noticed that too! This isn't my first language, you know!"
She conveniently ignored the fact that thanks in part to Hogwarts' magic, it was impossible to tell she really wasn't fluent in English. Tomo was confusing enough when there wasn't a language barrier to worry about.
"So what play are you doing, anyway?" Tomo continued, sitting down on one of the vacated benches. "Any sword fights?" Really, anything where she could cheer on one side over the other was good.

Date: 2007-07-17 03:56 pm (UTC)He'd have been impressed with her English had he been paying more attention to her squabble with the House Elf, but her performance had sunk him into a half-horrified, half-bemused daze and while she argued he was busy trying to figure out what in the hell he could do with her. At her question, he looked up again, blinking. Hadn't she already asked...? "...I don't know. And yes." There were always sword fights.

You could audition without knowing what play it was for, but even in Tomo's world it was strange not to have picked a play if you were the one actually running the auditions.

Date: 2007-07-18 04:56 pm (UTC)She didn't catch the aside, thankfully. "So, what's the verdict, Boss? Am I gonna be painting sets? Sound effects? I can be a bouncer, keep people from coming to see it without paying." Tomo leaned back a bit as she spoke. Attention whore that she was, it was still Tomo, and being in a play required rehearsal. And memorizing lines. And more effort than was necessary.

Date: 2007-07-21 12:05 am (UTC)Thank God for Bun-Bun. He turned looked over to the rabbit and nodded faintly, looking a little ill. "Do whatever you can," he sighed, hiding his head in his arms.
