((Backdated to April 14))
Mister Reilly,
The fair-haired woman we spoke of in Divination is indeed here. I met her by chance in the corridor, and I believe she has either been cursed or gone insane--I'm inclined to think the former, as there are likely many people besides I who would wish to curse her.
If she is indeed cursed, I do not know how long it will last, but I might well be able to use it. I have no idea how, however, or what I could and could not do against her. I had thought my desire for vengeance had faded, but in this case it is too perfect an opportunity to pass up. Even if I can do no more than infuriate her, it would be worth it. Would you have any ideas?
sincerely,
Catelyn Stark

Return owl, warded to turn into a cigarette case for anyone else
Date: 2007-04-17 02:58 am (UTC)My best suggestion may not be very useful to you with the information you have in hand and a small window of opportunity - I believe you are correct to assume this state is temporary, even though the chance remains that it isn't. It's this: This woman must have people here whose good opinion she values, with whom she is presenting herself in the best possible light. Show her in this state to those people, thereby undercutting whatever advantage she is turning them toward.
The difficulty, of course, is that having only just confirmed her presence, you may not have enough time to learn who those people are before this condition passes. It might be useful information to have in any case, however, so I'd still recommend working to discover in what quarter her attentions here are fixed.
There is of course no reason to assume there's any danger for you in seeking this information; but neither is there any reason to assume that there isn't. Please keep caution in the forefront of your attention; remember second chances don't come along every day.
Sincerely,
Sidney Reilly

Date: 2007-04-18 02:21 am (UTC)Unforunately, you are very probably right. I have no way of knowing what malady has taken her, but I must at least try to find the people here whose goodwill she is courting. I almost wish more that I could find whoever had done this to her to begin with--clearly somebody dislikes her immensely.
Much as I hate the thought, there is perhaps little I can do, but...that woman owes me far more than she can ever repay, and I would like nothing more than take as much back from her as I could.
You are right; second chances do not come along every day, and I would be a fool to do anything that might jeopardize it. Yet--I want to... I think, perhaps, that desire for vengeance is almost as dangerous as vengeance itself.
I thank you for your counsel...much as I desire to do something foolish, I...should not. It is, however, terribly, terribly tempting.
sincerely,
Catelyn Stark
