Application: Robin of Loxley (Robin of Sherwood)

Current Application:

1. What is your favorite cheese? Why is it your favorite?

Cheese was a luxury in those days of trial; I cannot remember the last time I tasted it. When I was a boy we kept a few goats, and my mother would make a soft cheese from their milk – that I remember quite well. It was a luxury then too, but one to which she was glad to treat my father and me, before the Sheriff’s men came. So that is my favorite, I think.

2. Who would you kill first, Barney or Carrottop?

If either is in league with the Sheriff or with Gisbourne he will find himself on the wrong side of my bow.

3. What time is it where you are?

Time does not matter in the Great Forest.

4. If you were Albus Dumbledore returned from the dead, which member of the Order of the Phoenix would you sexually harass? How would you harass them? If you are Albus Dumbledore, please answer as if you were Sirius Black.

I do not know of this Order, but if there is a red-haired woman with both beauty and fire, she should have my attention, of a certainty, though I force myself on no woman.

5. If you are pushing to be in:

A. Slytherin - please state the clever, witty name of the bar in which you bartend, in the dark.

I would call it the Silver Arrow, and I would serve the finest dark brews of the county.

B. Gryffindor – Debate whether Harry should ultimately end up married to Fred or George. Use examples from a variety of world mythologies to bolster your argument.

I am no judge of marriage; but love and freedom is all we fight for, is it not?

C. Ravenclaw – You guys are supposed to be smart. Explain why my desk is inundated with paperwork at all times, even though I’m constantly disposing of it.

Where I come from paperwork is but a trap of legal wrongs, a thing of this world meant to bind men to other men. All men should be free. Burn your paperwork.

D. Hufflepuff – Prove you are not useless.

Truly, I am here to learn so that I may continue to fight for freedom of all men. Herne has called another in my place – he has the love and loyalty of all whom I called friend or lover, and my place is no longer in that world. I met my fate at the hands of the Sheriff’s men, and was glad to give my life for Marian and Much. I rested for a while in the Great Forest; but now Herne grows old and there are many who no longer follow the old ways. He sends me here to learn of magic what I may, that in time I will become Herne the Hunter and call a Hooded Man anew.

6. Offer a bribe to the members of this community so that they will not squib you. Items used in bribery do not necessarily have to belong to the person offering the bribe.

I can teach what I know of woodcraft, swordplay, and archery, if any are interested.
That and my friendship are all I can offer.

Robin smiled. "Aye, I speak of Herne the Hunter. I was his Wolf's Head. Who are you, sir?"

"Zeus Olympios." He spread his hands theatrically as though about to bow, but the impressive gesture was probably slightly negated when he added, "I have five or six other last names, but let's stick with the basics, shall we?"

Robin immediately went down upon one knee, Albion held in front of him, point just touching the floor. "My lord."

The god laughed. "Oh, get up. Unless you're Greek and older than you look, you're not mine. Not that I object, mind, just that I have to set the example for the other yahoos in my family."

Robin got up, chuckling. "I think it is likely I am older than I look, my lord, but I am a free Englishman."

"Good man. Fight the good fight." Mortals didn't often handle freedom well. Real freedom, anyway - they tied themselves right back down again in some way or another. "I believe I'll vote you into Gryffindor. It seems appropriate to your worldview."

"You ruin it for everyone." She gives Zeus a very sulky look. "I am not a yahoo."

Robin bowed courteously to the newcomer. "My lady."

"Good sir." She held out her hand to him with a coquetish look, peering from under her golden hair.

Robin grinned and bowed over her hand, touching it to his lips briefly. "May I know your name, my lady?"

"Eris." She curtsied as he kissed her hand. "No offense, but Herne's kind of a fuddy duddy."

Robin straightened, raising a dark brow. "I am sorry to hear you think so, my lady Eris," he said, a little stiffly. "I hope you will not also be disappointed in his Son."

"I dunno, I kinda like this dope's kids," she jerked a thumb at Zeus, "so you still have some potential."

Robin was deeply shocked at Eris' cavalier attitude toward Zeus, but he tried to hide it and changed the subject hurriedly. "I am not Herne's actual son, you understand," he said by way of explanation and distraction, "merely he who was called to serve as the Hooded Man."

"Oh." She looked faintly disappointed. "Well, I'm his actual sister," she adds, gesturing at Zeus, "and my nieces and nephews tend to be at least entertaining with the flailing about and adventuring and things. Do you at least do that?"

That got an inadvertant grin out of Robin. "Indeed, my lady, I have done my share of 'flailing around and adventuring and things'. I do not expect to do it more, but never say never, I have been told."

"Actually, you are. Still, I was mostly talking about the kids and other sibs." Eris had never been particularly interested in the formal worship and temples and things, at least not as much as others. "But if you feel insulted, hey! Go with the feeling, sister."
