Closed RP: Tiffany, Sam, and Al

After the alcohol-induced illness at New Year's, Tiffany spent the last several weeks staying as far away from the Ravenclaw bar as possible. As she was also busily studying the type of witchcraft that was taught here, it meant she normally hid out in the Library, so it all worked out quite well.

Today she was studying up on Charms, which she was finding especially interesting. She had her head buried in one large book, while two neat piles of other large books sat on the table next to her. One was smaller than the other, but which was which was slowly changing as she read through them.

Alphonse had been meaning to ask Tiffany about the Valentine's party ever since he'd heard about it on the radio but his shyness had caused him to procrastinate over it until the week of the party. He didn't spend nearly as much time in the library as his brother, but today Al happened to be lurking about in the same section as Tiffany.

He spotted her as he was coming around a shelf, which he quickly ducked back behind. It took him a few minutes to build up his courage before he stepped out from behind the shelf and walked over to Tiffany.

"Er... Hi, Tiffany," he started nervously.

Sam had learned just recently about this Valentine's Day thing from another student, having also heard the advertisement on the radio. And given that there weren't many girls he was friendly with, he'd decided to ask Tiffany to come with him to the party. Thus he was in the library, having spotted Tiffany there. He approached her, and then hesitated, noticing Al was already there.

"Um, hello," he said lightly, hoping his palms weren't sweating as much as he feared they actually were.

Tiffany looks up from her book, smiling at Sam and Al.

"Hi!" she says, cheerfully, then turns the book around so they can see. "I found these really interesting charms. Look, this one is a sticky charm so you don't have to worry about falling off your broom."

"That's really interesting!," Al said in an overly-bright tone. He paused for a moment to eye Sam suspiciously- surely he hadn't shown up for the same purpose as Al, right?

Swallowing hard, Al began to ask, "So, Tiffany, have you- did you, er hear about the party coming up?"

Sam also eyed Al with a bit of suspicion, especially when he spoke up. "Falling off your broom? Well, right, that charm does seem useful." He trailed off before he could start babbling in earnest to await Tiffany's answer.

Tiffany nods at Sam. "I think it's very useful. One of the main reasons I don't like flying is because I don't like downs, especially what would happen if I fell off and fell all...the...way...down...." Her voice drops as she says the last bit, and she shudders before turning to Al.

"Yes, I've heard people talking about a party for Valentine's Day. What is Valentine's Day, anyway?"

"It's, um, this holiday for couples, I guess. And they're having a big party... For couples..." Al ran his hand through his bangs nervously. "...But, um, see, if you aren't already a couple, then you have to... Ask someone to go with you."

Sam's suspicions were definitely confirmed. A large part of him wanted to turn and flee the scene right now, but he stood frozen, not sure what to do or say, but pretty much positive of the fact that he was soon to be humiliated.

"Right," he muttered, somewhat lamely. "That's how I thought it worked."

Tiffany thought about this for a moment. "You're not allowed to go the party unless go with someone else? That doesn't seem very fair." She adjusts the rim of her hat as she thinks some more. "But then again, it's easy enough to get around if you just get a friend to go with you."

She puts a bookmark in the Charms book and closes it, because she's fairly sure that getting this sorted out while trying to read simply isn't going to work. "Alright, so you wanted to know if I'd heard about this party that you can only go to if you're with someone, right?" she says to Al, then turns to Sam. "And, um, I'm guessing you also came to ask me if I'd heard about the party, right?"

She gives a quick glance at the unread Charms books, and finds herself very much hoping that there's a charm in one of them that can keep certain little blue men from reading her diary.

Al nodded weakly, his face burning brght red. "Um, actually, I think you can go alone but you're, um... The point is... That you should take someone with you that you really like."

"Right," Sam added, miserably conceding the loss of the battle before it had started. "And I think you're only supposed to take one person with you."

Why did boys always have to complicate things? Honestly, these two were dancing around the issue even more than Nanny Ogg did with the talk about sex.

"That's silly," Tiffany stated matter-of-factly. And as someone who was nearly fourteen, she should know. "What if there's more than one person you really like? Or what if you just don't like silly rules like that? I don't see that that one has any point at all."

She straightened her hat and folded her arms, looking from Sam to Al and back again. "And since the two of you are taking too long to ask, I will. Would you two like to go to the party with me?"

Al turned bright red all the way to the tips of his ears. Tiffany turning the question around on him wasn't what had rattled him- could you really have two... dates? That could get awkward.

...But if Sam liked Tiffany too, then who was to say he couldn't go with her as well? Al wasn't the jealous sort like his brother, and thus thought it would be perfectly fair for Sam to go with her too.

"I.. er... Okay!"
