Lethe gave Jiàng an odd look, but he took the cash and made it disappear again, this time into his own pocket. Did the priest think he was a little kid? The answer was obviously 'yes', as Jiàng proceeded to bargain for Lethe's safety. And it was equally obvious what Sertés wanted in return. He glared at the Count and turned to Jiàng. "Hey. I'm not a kid. I can take care of myself," he told the priest angrily. "You don't have to give this psycho anything on my account."
He tried to tell himself that the so-called Count was just a little too into Halloween, but it was more than that. This was definitely a Halloween party, but Lethe wasn't wearing a costume. Somehow he'd known that Jiàng's robes weren't a costume either, so maybe Sertés wasn't pretending? The guy couldn't be a real vampire of course, but it would be dangerous enough if he thought he was. The priest probably had no idea what he was getting into.
"You don't expect us to believe that you really need blood, do you?" He stepped closer to Nyolcas, trying to put himself between Jiàng and the perceived threat without really being aware of it. "You had your little taste already, so why don't you just give up the act."
