Stephen, having done his medical duty and having been satisfied to see that the young woman had revived, had meanwhile wandered off to look at the fjord. This spared everyone the uncomfortable (and somewhat hypocritical) scene that might have ensued had Stephen detected Jack's ulterior motives in assisting Christine's re-robing.
