The Tam-Maturin household, such as it is, has not yet relocated to professorial quarters, largely because neither River nor Stephen cares to start packing anything, and Stephen doesn't trust the house-elves not to break any of his specimens or bottles of drugs.

So it is to the Ravenclaw dorm that Stephen returns from his shopping trip with Ginny and Emma, carrying two small boxes. He feels more relieved than triumphant: an air of thank God that's over with. All the same, he does think that River is bound to like one of the two selections (he is sure Diana would have liked the one Ginny picked out). Still musing on Diana and her beloved blue diamond, he unlocks and unwards the door to enter, and River is already there.
