((Why oh why does that damn samurai insist on meeting the other characters in my head????))
There are many things in the world that simply defy explanation. That is the nature of the world, after all. Usually, though, if you followed things far enough, you could find a reason for them. It was just a matter of following things to their logical conclusion.
So, the logical conclusion of Kurama calling someone a friend and then trying to talk Yukimura out of wanting to meet him was that there must be a reason for it, a reason that Yukimura wanted to know. Never being one to stay away from things he was supposed to, Yukimura sought out a way to meet this Mello person. He knew Mello was blond, had a bad attitude and was generally trouble. He added to that list that he must be reasonably intelligent for Kurama to consider him a friend. He couldn't see the kitsune tolerating anyone who was merely normal or subpar. He also knew Mello practiced martial arts.
With that much information, he asked the house elves. The looks they gave him made him think that it would be better not to press for information, though, lest he be stuck with only their western food. He decided that another investigative tack was needed. So, instead, he asked the house elves if there was anywhere to practice martial arts inside the castle. They told him of a room called the Room of Requirement and how to find it. He thanked them, which seemed to please them, and found his way there.
( And they were kung-fu fighting... )
