Bella's face shows shock. 'Years? I won't stay that long, I hope. Dad doesn't know where I've gone, nor does Jacob--my friend back home. To them, I just disappeared. I've heard time works differently here, but I still wouldn't want years.' Even if Edward is here. Bella does not mention it's her fault for disappearing, because diving off a cliff and into waves and into a seemingly magic portal...well, nobody else could be that stupid, could they? It'd be like getting chewed on by a giant snake.
'Anyway, I think the Potions professor left,' she says, remembering an upset Rose Casson. 'I don't know if the position's been filled again.'
