IC sock, OOC announcement: the fate of Qanonreip

"And so," Albus finished firmly, "this problem absolutely must be addressed."

He had been aware of the problem for some time. It had remained to think of a diplomatic way to broach the subject to Kahnooloo.

The headmistress might be touchy about criticism of her administration, particularly when the criticism came from a previous headmaster. To upset her now would endanger Albus's present obscure niche as professor emeritus, and therefore his ongoing secret battle against furries.

In the end he had chosen simply to level with her as a peer. She could be capricious, but Albus had dealt with caprice before. He gambled on the power of her pride to move her: being treated as a respected colleague by the greatest wizard of the past century had to be heady for a little Furby from a nowhere town. He had been right. She puffed up and preened, and looked very officious, and commanded Kojiro to take notes. (Kojiro ... why did that man give Albus such a funny feeling in his tummy? This must be how it felt to experience protection from refrigeration.)

The problem was this: In the early days of the Sorting Hat's new reign of terror, certain deserving students had been turned away unjustly. Albus deftly placed the blame for this on Voldemort and on his former shadow-self who'd apparently been so taken with the dark wizard, absolving Kahnooloo of all responsibility. She'd been new to Hogwarts in those days, and supposed-Dumbledore had seemed to possess impeccable credentials. Further, both he and Voldemort had been on the faculty then. Why shouldn't she have relied on their guidance, with the Sorting Hat endorsing their identities (doubtless for its own amusement)?

These students, Albus argued, should be permitted a chance to benefit from a Hogwarts education. He'd heard rumors that one of them was wandering around the Forbidden Forest even now -- a certain Zapp Brannigan. Besides the obvious injustice, it was certain this couldn't be fostering much goodwill for Hogwarts among the Forest's centaur community. Albus proposed that Zapp be offered a place in a current House, and that the other students be allowed to reapply to the school should they ever find their way here again.

Kahnooloo nodded, and batted her weird huge eyelashes, and made clacking noises with her beak. She also cooed some Furbish phrases which Albus chose to take as agreement. (Furbish was a highly ambiguous language, owing to its less than extensive vocabulary. Kahnooloo might alternately have been proposing that everybody eat candy and have a party.)

In the end, what they hammered out with Kojiro's help proved a satisfactory solution. Basically the Furby had acceded to all Dumbledore's suggestions. She even agreed to allow that he produce and distribute an orientation pamphlet for use in the Sorting Room.

Had it not been for the random occurrences of "lol" in Kojiro's writing, which Albus then had to edit out, it would have been perfect. Albus decided a little copyediting labor was a small price to pay for remedying an injustice.

A room was set aside for Zapp Brannigan in Tootsitramp House, right next door to Nebulon. As for the rest, their applications were archived among the residents of Qanonreip House. From now on, Albus and Kahnooloo had decided, Qanonreip would not be a truly functional House. Rather, it would be the place where clear imposters were 'Sorted', if the school's magic would not permit them to be squibbed or sent away. (Secretly Albus wished there had been such a fate for the former 'Dumbledore' who'd aged down, married Voldemort, carried on with Severus, and become a general scandal. Alas, he would forever have to carry the tarnish that 'Dumbledore' had put upon his name. Some things simply must be borne, and popcorn-amnesia excused a multitude of sins. Former-Albus had been Sorted into Gryffindor, properly, so in Gryffindor the present Albus would remain. Only if the former Albus had been squibbed could the present Albus have been re-Sorted. This he understood and accepted. The Hat couldn't reSort everyone. More to the point, the Hat wouldn't reSort everyone.)

Instead, Qanonreipers would be sent to an offshore remedial school recommended by Kojiro. They couldn't be allowed to partake in the life of the school; it would be simply too disruptive.

The headmistress and the shadow headmaster professor emeritus sent a list of the wrongly squibbed persons to the Sorting Hat, along with lots of bling to soften the request. And so it was that the roster underwent a very minor re-ordering, and the Hat acquired a gorgeous diamond hatpin.

(( OOC NOTE: This is a mechanism by which to enable the reapplication of canon characters who, in the early days of the game, were squibbed before it had been determined only OCs would be squibbed. Now those characters can be re-apped as playable.

Future applications of any kind would only be sorted into Qanonreip at the mods' discretion and only in extreme cases: for example, when a mun does not reply to any comments (abandoned applications), or when an app is so grossly out of character that even within a crack game it can't really be excused. PLEASE understand that this is not meant to be, and will not become, a system for adjudicating ICness. Nor will we field complaints that a given application should be / should have been sorted into Qanonreip. We will only sort into Qanonreip when it appears to the mod team as a whole to be the only course of action on a given application.))
