Wait, what? Claire was burrowing Rachel's clothes? The thought was fairly horrifying, considering what Rachel usually wore - but Peter held his tongue over that particular subject. Protesting wouldn't be helpful. Maybe he could try and change Rachel's mind later. Peter didn't think Mr and Mrs Bennet would look too kindly on him if he let their daughter walk around in leather pants.
And Peter wasn't sure how to react to the idea that Claire wanted to learn how to 'save the world'. It was good that she wanted to help people, and Peter felt a small point of pride that he'd managed to pass on some qualities to his niece. But, on the other hand, Peter was probably the last person to look to for that kind of thing right now. The idea of saving the world? Not so exciting after you tried, screwed up, and had to have your brother save it for you.
"I'm not good, don't lie," he glanced at Rachel, his smile gone. "Helping people is really good, Claire, and I'm glad that you want to," Peter encouraged. But there was a hint of doubt. He wasn't Claire's parents, but he wasn't sure if he was happy with the idea of Claire going on runs or anything - he knew Rachel would bring it up eventually. "But sparring lessons are good. It's always useful to know basic stuff." The smile came back, gentle rather than teasing or amused. "And I know you'll be great at helping people, Claire. Even though I don't think you need to learn how to do something you've already been doing."
