There were a lot of possible responses to that. Maybe Harry even had an expectation in mind. What Lily did, however, probably wasn't it.
She laughed.
It started out as a sudden giggle. Staring at Harry, eyes going wider as all the implications of this sunk in, she tipped her head back and began to laugh, hard, shoulders shaking with the force of them. The helpless, tired, frustrated laughs of someone who had just pulled back the curtain to find anything but a great and powerful Oz.
"That old fool," she choked around the giggles, wiping her eyes. "That sodding, batty old fool."
But there was no mirth in her eyes, no real joy in her laugh. Shaking her head, Lily pushed away from the wall, barely noticing her protesting muscles, cramped from holding the same position for hours. "Come on, Harry," she said, putting her wand away, looking a bit lost. "Let's go get some food. I'm bloody starving."
Turning to walk away, Lily paused, her eyes caught on the popcorn plaque. "What did the rest of it say?" she said slowly, turning to look at him. "This prophecy. What did it say?" The thing she died for, and she didn't even know the whole of it. That just summed up her life quite brilliantly.
