Ponies to Stephen and Abby

Stephen is delivered a package by the pony he gave to Dr. Cox, which now sports a blanket with "RED BARON" on the sides in huge, spiky red letters, and a pack horse saddle. The package includes a bottle of Madeira, some chocolates, and a note. The note reads:

Doc,

I thought you should be privy to Red Baron's maiden voyage. Hopefully this, you know, actually reaches you and the damn thing didn't just run off or something.

I know it will mean approximately jack to you, but I am sorry about River. Unfortunately, this is pretty much the best I can offer. Share it with Sarah -- I meant what I said, she seems great.

After visiting Stephen, Red Baron also delivers a package for Abby. This one is much smaller, and simply contains some of the chocolates, a can of Red Bull, and a note. The note reads:

Coffee Cake,

HA. Beat you to it. Enjoy your consolation prize.

A while later, a normal-sized duck returns. Around his neck is a tag that reads "Ducky". He lands in front of Dr. Cox with an audible Quack.

Doc,

You did beat me! You're sneaky. Chocolate and a Red Bull? You rule.

After sending Ducky away with the message to Dr. Cox, Abby unwrapped one of the chocolates, and took a sniff. "It's true what they say, Ghirardelli does make good chocolate. I wonder how the doc got it." Popping it into her mouth, it was all yummy and delicious. Within a few seconds, the change began. She got smaller, furrier, her nails grew. When it was finished, instead of a Goth girl, there sat a small black cat. It sat there a moment, before she realized what happened. She tried to say 'Oh crap', but it only came out as 'Meowww'.

Stephen, who is rather suspicious by nature, made even more so recently, and does not trust Cox in the first place, subjects the wine and chocolates to some basic tests. The wine he keeps, after judging it harmless. The chocolates he sends back to Cox, along with a mouse who is acting very peculiar, and a note.

Perry:

How droll. Perhaps you wished to alleviate my mourning by inducing temporary insanity? The ones in the blue wrapper are aphrodisiac, the ones in the green wrapper reverse aging to some point in childhood, and the ones in the orange wrapper make the consumer able to express himself only in song. This animal ate from an orange-wrappered sweet. You are welcome to the auditory delights that have resulted.

*almost immediately after Stephen sends the chocolates off, before Cox has time to receive the package, he gets another note from Cox*

Doc,

DON'T EAT THE CHOCOLATE.

Uh, nevermind then. Look, I had NO IDEA they were cursed.

I decided to let him go, so I guess now there's a singing mouse running around the halls and freaking people out.

I think my work here is done.

Let me be sure I understand you correctly. You released an experimental animal, which was under the influence of a drug, into the general rodent population.

I should call it impressive except that I would fear you might take me at my word and not my meaning.

Well, yeah. I'm hoping we can get singing mice.

Some time later, Ducky returns. He looks a bit shaken up, and his feathers are ruffled. He carries another message, but this one has only a black paw print on it.

Crap. My Roxy's bad.

When the pony returns, Abbycat is following it. She had been riding it until Red Baron took off, dumping her unceremoniously on the ground. When she sees Dr. Cox, she waves a paw. "Mrrrrow."

"Aw, geez..." He sighed, picking the cat up off the ground, and gave it a critical look. "I am... so not a cat person, you know that, right?"

She just looked at him. "Meow meow." Being a cat wasn't all bad, just very different. In fact, Abby could see distinct advantages to being a cat, if she could only figure out how to turn it on and off at will.

It was too bad he'd already set the mouse free, he mused, or he could give it to her to play with. He narrowed his eyes, turning Abby this way and that. "Sooooo..." What did you even do with cats? He liked dogs. "...I guess we should go ahead and get you fed? Whaddya want, tuna?" He was half-teasing, a grin on his face.

She started to purr. Food was sounding pretty good to her. Abby had spent almost as much time in the hospital wing as she had anywhere else, and it only reminded her that she really needed to go to class to learn something.

"Yeah, okay..." He sighed again. Unfortunately, he felt responsible for Abby's little change. "Guess I could do with a bowl a'Wheaties myself." Tucking the Abbycat into his arms, he set off for the kitchens.

Being carried was nice too. If only she had a way to communicate that didn't involve speaking cat. Wrinkling her furry cat nose, she concentrated really hard on thinking "It's all right, I'm not mad."
