owl to werewolves on campus, and OOC note to all characters
I have been asked by the Headmistress to inform you that, in my capacity as Potions Master, I am happy to provide you with Wolfsbane Potion on a regular basis. Simply visit my office when you have need of it.
While much has been made of this potion's difficulty to brew, I find it certainly within the realm of my abilities, and you need not worry as to the efficacy of the potion you receive from me as long as you do not adulterate it with sugar. If in doubt, my predecessor has left all his appurtenances behind him, and you are welcome to compare his Wolfsbane Potion with my own. I fully understand that one in your condition would not want to leave anything to chance.
- S. Maturin.
((OOC: Considering that Maturin is one of literature's great experimental drug users, and compounds medicines on a regular basis, I'm sure he's not just being cocky about this -- he really can make the potion. If you want something to go awry with your potion, you'll have to have your character do something to it after s/he receives the potion. ))
OOC announcement: Yes, Dr Maturin is now Potions Master, and he's one of literature's great experimental drug users, so you can expect much wacky research into potions. Already he's found a recipe that enables mpreg, out of his concern for Ryuuji and Nightwing. If you want your character to do something plotwise that some insane potion would help along, feel free to have them pester Maturin, IC or OOC ... he's always up for a challenge, provided it doesn't go against his sense of ethics.

I greatly appreciate your efforts on our behalf. The next full moon is on 13 April. I will be sure to visit your office before then.
Congratulations on your new position!
Sincerely,
Professor R.J. Lupin

Going off-campus for full moon. Don't need potion. Thanks anyways.

return owl to Oz, warded
Duly noted. I hope this does not mean you will be rampaging through the countryside, however.
- S. Maturin.
Re: return owl to Oz, warded
Worse. Folk tunes.
-Oz
Re: return owl to Oz, warded
I fear I know of no antidote to folk tunes, so for the sake of the good people of Hogsmeade, please sing responsibly.
- S. Maturin.
Re: return owl to Oz, warded
I'm a responsible guy. Anyways, you don't have to worry, there'll be no wolfy. I have other methods.
-Oz
Re: return owl to Oz, warded
My curiosity is piqued. Would it be too intrusive to inquire as to said methods? The no-wolfy methods, that is; as to folk tunes, I am in no need of education, and can raise you a sea chantey or two at that.
- S. Maturin.
Re: return owl to Oz, warded
Chanting, meditating, some good tea. It's a nice life.
-Oz
Re: return owl to Oz, warded
Which element is most instrumental in preventing the change, do you think: the chanting, the meditation, or the tea?
- S. Maturin.
Re: return owl to Oz, warded
I'd say the meditation. It's all about keeping balance, and that is best brought through meditation. The chanting and the tea just help me keep calm.
-Oz
Re: return owl to Oz, warded
This sounds to be an Eastern thing. I have spent a bit of time in India, and am not wholly unfamiliar with such customs. Might it not help the other werewolves, as well, to learn this technique? It seems a sad sort of life, to be dependent on a potion so difficult as to prohibit the ordinary man from brewing his own.
- S. Maturin.
Re: return owl to Oz, warded
I don't think I could teach them how, though I pointed them both to where they could find help. There's risk involved so I don't blame them for deciding not to.
-Oz
Re: return owl to Oz, warded
That may be wise, should your method be prone to failure, and they not conversant with a sufficiently wide range of folk tunes. However, I would be interested to learn where this help was found.
- S. Maturin.
Re: return owl to Oz, warded
It's only failed a couple of times, and both of the things that encouraged the change are gone now. And it was in a temple in Tibet.
-Oz
Re: return owl to Oz, warded
My thanks for this information. I have one last question, if I may presume: is the tea also of Tibetan origin?
- S. Maturin.
Re: return owl to Oz, warded
Yeah. Want a sample?
-Oz
Re: return owl to Oz, warded
I should like nothing better. Would you care to know the results once I have analyzed it?
- S. Maturin.
Re: return owl to Oz, warded
Sure. There's probably some fecal matter from something in there, and spending several nights disturbed is always a fun way to spend your time.
-Oz
*A bag containing herbs arrives tied to I am the Walrus Raptorbait's talon. The fierce owl glares before holding it out. If Maturin takes too long, it will nip his fingers*
Re: return owl to Oz, warded
Oz:
The sample has been received, with my gratitude. You may want to consider an owl-sized muzzle for the creature who brought it. Is its beak a further measure against lycanthropy?
- S. Maturin.
Re: return owl to Oz, warded
More like a side-effect of an owl that can make a monthly journey to Tibet and back. Did he bite you? Because if he did, you can give him a name. It seems only fair.
-Oz
Re: return owl to Oz, warded
He did indeed, but I should not have said so unless asked. Since you offer, I will say I am in the habit of naming creatures after my particular friend Captain Aubrey, and "Aubrey" seems to me a pleasant enough name for a vicious bloodthirsty owl.
- S. Maturin.
Re: return owl to Oz, warded
I am the Walrus Raptorbait Aubrey it is, then.

Thank you for preparing the potion. Congratulations on your new position.
Dr. Alan Grant
P.S. I have seen some of your dinosaur sketches in the Ravenclaw common room, and they are very good. I have a book of illustrations by Charles R. Knight. Would you be interested in borrowing it?
no subject
No need to address me as Professor, unless you would like me to call you Professor as well. I am flattered by your regard for my paltry attempts at dinosaur depiction: the great beasts were not known in my time, and it has been through Hogwarts' library that I learned of them, until such time as Miss Yorkes and her dinosaur arrived here. The sketches you saw were likely my attempts at depicting Miss Yorkes' dinosaur, whom she has named Old Lace.
I would be most grateful to borrow the book of illustrations.

Maturin,
I have looked through the library's dinosaur books, and while there's a lot on the magical properties of dinosaurs, there isn't much about their biology. I have quite a few books with me, and some fossils on loan from a museum. You are more than welcome to take a look at them. I haven't met Ms. Yorkes or her dinosaur, but maybe I should talk to her.
