It's been a while, all you wayward children of Hogwarts. I think it's time for a little more... music.

But he said it fondly, and reached to stroke the Doctor's cheek, leaning on the table as he did so. "It doesn't matter, you know. Height. Specially not lying down."

"S'that got to do with anything? Means something when we're standing. I can reach all the highest cereal boxes."

"Cereal's no fun anymore. No more fun toys. And they keep calling them stupider and stupider things. Why do you want cereal?"

"I'm pretty good at reaching what I want." He paused. "Eventually. Right?"

Oh, how was it that this time around the Doctor could be so devastating merely by being gentle? "Never gave up on you." Well, one way or another, but why spoil a tender moment with technicalities? "And here. That. The Popcorn Plaque. I watched it so closely. Just in case." He still checked it often, but nowhere near as obsessively.

"Sorry to have worried you. Don't plan on going anywhere soon though."

"Does that mean you'll be staying in our room?" He could count off the days if he wanted to, of course, surely he wasn't that drunk. It felt like a week. "Or do I need to come up with some desperate scheme?"

He snorted. "of course I'm statying in your room, don't be thick."

"If you're staying, it's our room. Just so I can say it. I like saying it. Our room."

He grinned and took another big gulp of his drink, although his mood was now celebratory.

"What sort of garish decor should I be resigning myself to?"

"Fairy lights" the Doctor responded firmly from across his drink. "Lots of them. On the bedposts. I love fairy lights, have you seen? Course you have, you lived on Earth for a bit too- I think they should be acceptable on more than just Christmas. That's what I think."

"As long as they're not blinking. Preferably a single color. The blue ones aren't so bad." He seemed to be giving the idea intense thought. "But that would clash with the duvet. You do seem to understand the concept of 'clashing' this time around, at least."

"Whites one. They go with everything."

"All right. Twinkly little white lights it is." Actually those sounded fairly innocuous. "Nothing that makes noises, though."

"Oh all right. I suppose I can live without noises."

"Good boy. I'll show you how to have lights anywhere you want, for that." He smiled with pleased magnanimity, drew his wand, and held it aloft. "Lumos!" The tip glowed brightly, and he looked to the Doctor for approval.

Can you move it?" He asked, watching the light, His eyes were a bit unfocused.

"There are variants I'm experimenting with," he said, waving his wand in slow and random patterns. He didn't mention that one of his interests was the potential hypnotic quality of certain flashing lights that was purely theory so far.

The Doctor watched the light for a few moments longer before growing bored.

"It's all very fascinating, but having to hold it just seems like a special sort of torch, yeah?"

"Pfft. Look at this." He grabbed one of the empty glasses and murmured an incantation that caused cheery blue flames to spring up inside. They flared alarmingly for a moment, then cast a dim but appealing flickering glow over the table.
