As the muns plot ((Compy post))

So, yes, the muns are plotting. Poor Maddie, the target of that plotting. Little does she know that as she goes into the Compy Lab to see what ~~horrors~~wonders await her.

Actually, I don't believe the BBC called Maddie.

The mun has a disgraceful habit of following bunny trails in Maddie's posts. Let us get to the point, if you please.

Maddie goes into the Compy Lab and after registering the very clever screenname of "MysteryAuthor" posts the following:

As one who is new to this bulletin board service style of posting,
I was wondering how does one integrate this into normal social gatherings? 
Is it an adjunct to mixers and face to face contact or a replacement for them?

Maddie really doesn't know much about these things.

Well, for some, mainly hikkomori and people in rural places, yeah, it is a replacement to meeting people. There are others though that do use this to get to know people, and sometimes that leads to a face to face meeting.

I like these things! I can talk to a lot more people than I would meet!

The mun now thinks that "MysteriousAuthor would have been cooler...ah, wells.

A lot of this is new to me and I am still on the same island I've lived all
my life. But, this place brought me forward 10 years.  That was and still is
quite an adjustment. And, even when you do know all the rules, it is still
easy to make blunders.

You're right about rules- I am an explorer. I love visiting new places, but sometimes you can make extremely embarassing errors- such going to an open bazaar and picking up a sex-toy thinking it's a drinking glass. Such is life."

Hikkomori? I don't understand what that word means.  Is it a new word for shut-
ins? And, can you really get to know someone well over these things, without
seeing them. Communication is only partially what we say. And, there may be
some who are better at writing and present a far too positive picture off themselves.

And, there, she starts on the hiding of criminals.

But, everyone who posts on these are in this school. You could meet them without
resorting to typing at them, couldn't you?

The internet was still extremely geeky in Maddie's time, but then, most computers still came without a built in modem, much less a lan.

Well, no, it's not perfect, and you're right, someone could easily be lying on the internet. But someone could just as easily be lying in public as well.

It's a BIG school though! I've been exploring it since I came here and I STILL haven't seen all of it.

I can't say that's an error I've ever made, though I haven't been to many
open bazaars. I've been to a few boot sales, but people generally sell old clothes
and velvet paintings at those. Sometimes, if you're lucky, you can find some real
treasures at boot sales.

Yeah, that sex toy thing...probably a faux pas...but funny.

AH, but you should go to one sometime. That's one of the nice things about visiting other planets. You never know what you'll find. Here, for example I've found some wonderful jewlry by a dwarven craftsman.

And, so good with the not defining things here, boy.

Meaning, what? Rural? That would be redundant. And, it's easier to spot someone
lying in person than in type.

And, we'll not go into how the second time (http://www.veoh.com/browse/videos/category/entertainment/watch/v11469419p6MJTp6A) we meet Maddie, she's being well and truly hoodwinked.

It is much bigger than it seems like it should be. And the moving stairs and
talking paintings make it easy to get turned around even when you don't mean to
be turned around.

This mun thinks something along the lines of the Labyrinth.

Other planets? The closest I know of anyone visiting other planets is when
the American astronauts landed on the moon and they haven't been back since.
Though, I did know someone who said that she could receive messages from space,
but the alien turned out to be made from frozen mercury.

Poor Maddie's brain is being broken by this conversation.

Really, it is unnecessary to be rude. I asked what it meant because I am 
unfamiliar with the term. Had I known what it meant, I would not have asked.

Yeah! And I do have to stop to eat and sleep and talk to people and fight worms.

Messages, that is fascinating. From all I've heard, the Earth is not connected to any other planets at this point in time. It was eventually walled off in my time also, which was really a tragedy.

Fight worms? I didn't know there was anything like that in the halls here!

And now, Maddie has another reason not to wander the halls.

Like not running into Lezard wasn't enough.

I didn't say they were from space, just that she said they were. There was
this bloke, a famous 'expert' who took advantage of her, in some ways, and in
others protected her. It's difficult to figure out which it really was. But,
why would Earth be 'walled off?'

It was slaveshielded by another race, supposedly to 'protect' the earth's people. Although humans did have some nasty enemies and were fighting a war at the time, so I suppose it had some benefit. Some few people still managed to travel,afterwards, though. Not as many as I'd hope.

There were! Giant bugs! And they could use Acid and were also Electric!

War? I suppose one of the few reasons anyone would want to communicate with
this planet is to either cause war or to make use of us. It's the optimists that
think that those advanced enough to travel in space would also be peaceful.
Though, obviously, there are exceptions. Every rule has them.

That sounds horrid. Are they gone?

Maddie may have to remain in the Compy Lab for a while if they're not.

You may be right about pessimism, but hopefully things can change. I like to consider myself an exception...
