"Bringing that up is totally below-the-belt." Said once Matt's actually able to stop laughing and speak again.

"It was a really manly karaoke bar," he assures L. "And we were singing very manly songs."

"Before we know it they'll be demanding snacks," he says to L. "I fear for the castle's supply of chocolate."

"Yeah, yeah. They served beer to minors and that's all we cared about." I turn to Near. "Did you bring some?"

"We could go to my room." L has lots. Chocolate for Mello visits, and potato chips for Matt visits, and marshmallows for himself (and to compare Near to.)

"Technically we're still minors. Not in this country, but back in the States."

At L's suggestion, Matt grins. "We could say hi to Team Rocket."

I shrug. "I dunno. Pokemon?"

"They're my goldfish," proclaims L, cheerfully. "Matt and A named them. Well, mostly Matt."

"Pokemon goldfish," Matt agrees with a grin. "And yeah, I might have had something to do with the naming."

He feels compelled to turn and kiss L on the cheek for being awesome and letting him give his pets stupid names.

"If you're going to do that, perhaps we should leave," Near teases. "I wouldn't want to be around when the strawberry ice cream came out."

I look between the two on the bed and Near. "If that's anything like I think it is, I do not want to see it." I lean over and make sure I'm whispering in Near's ear, "Besides, I think there's still some chocolate sauce left over, if you want to do that."

"I think we'd best discuss something" anything "else."

"Dude, I was talking about Pokemon," Matt says, all innocence. And it's true! "Blame Near and Mello. They're the sick fucks."

"That's hardly fair," Near protests mildly. "I'm not calling you a drugged degenerate, after all."

I relax, grinning at the room. "I dunno, we're not that moral, after all. We do what we do not because it's the right thing but because we all can't stand to lose. Makes us all degenerate, to some degree. As for drugged? That'll wear off soon enough." I sigh.

"The ends justify the means," says L, complacently, unconcerned.

"And it doesn't seem to be wearing off to me." Not that he wants it to, just yet. He's comfortable like this.

As far as Matt's concerned this makes perfect sense.
