Rooftops are Win

Stephanie Brown had a lot of reasons to be happy. She was alive, not-a-zombie, and apparently imbued with latent magical abilities. However, at this very moment, her happiness was primarily due to the fact that she was standing hundreds of feet above ground level, Spoiler costume on, with a new grappling hook in hand. Batkids were weird that way.

Steph a deep breath, and dived off of the edge the Owlery. She released her hook (admittedly waiting a few feet longer than would usually be safe, due to the lovely ‘no-kill’ spell in place), landed on top of a gargoyle, and sighed contently.

"Still got it."

((Open RP- If you’ve got a character likely to hang out on rooftops, come say hi!))

Malingo had found a window that opened and was strategically placed to get onto the roof, despite having been here only a few days. Actually, the "a few days" thing still amazed him, and that was part of why he'd come up here, to watch time pass.

He was starting to doze off when suddenly a girl came out of nowhere and landed on a nearby gargoyle. With a completely undignified squeek, he grabbed onto the nearest bit of masonry and narrowly avoided falling off the roof. A moment later, when he'd gotten his breath back, Malingo looked over at her. "If you don't mind me asking, where in A'za's name did you come from?"

Malingo looked up at the rooftop in question, and blinked, hard. "...Oh. I, um, came up from that window, down there," he replied, pointing down at an open window, about six feet below the roofline.

"Just watching the sky," he said, with a shrug. "I've been up here for a while - where I come from, I'd have to walk from one end of an island to another to for time to change this much, and here? It's amazing, the way that time passes." Of course, this would probably sound insane to anyone not familiar with the Abarat, but Malingo didn't seem to realize that.

"Planet? I don't think so, not exactly." Malingo wished he'd had a chance to learn more about how the Abarat and the Hereafter were related. "More like... another dimension? You can go back and forth under certain conditions, and it doesn't involve going into space."

((Okay, considering who I play, I couldn't resist.))

It's official: May has completely lost her mind. Or she's just decided to go stir-crazy on a laundry day.

Actually, she's testing out the replacement web-fluid she cooked up a while back. That's the official excuse.

Whatever the reason, she's in full costume as she clambers up a wall and web-swings over the courtyard, swinging intentionally close to the Owlery (okay, the owls are a little annoyed and it's childish, but it's fun and she doesn't even get into their flight paths). She reaches the top of the arc before releasing the webline, doing a flip in mid-air and landing gracefully on the side of the tower. "Whoo-hoo! It works!" It held her weight, stretched like it should, let her cut it off at the right point and didn't clog up the web-shooters. Finally.

She's so relieved to have a working batch tested, and to be really and truly web-swinging for the first time in ages, that it takes her a moment to realize she's got an audience perched on the gargoyle above her. "Oh. Hi."

Ray was halfway to stubbing his cigarette out when he realized he didn't know whoever had just landed nearby. Oh. Sheesh. "Uh, hey." He waved the hand with the smoke. "You, uh, take up roof-jumpin' as a hobby?"

[identity profile] makeminemayday.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
May grins underneath her mask although the other girl can't see it. Could be worse. She could have been spotted by a civilian. They tend to ask the awkward questions.

"Webbing," she says automatically. "Something my, uh, predecessor made. This is the third batch I've tried to put together and the first one that's worked right. You used rope?"

She doesn't need to say to do what.

He snorts. "Man, school must be tougher'n it was when I graduated." He leaned back against the wall and took a drag on the cigarette. "Yeah, you know, I heard that. And if anyone asks, 'specially a guy in mountie-gear? You never saw me up here, okay? Otherwise I'm in for a lecture."

"Hey, don't knock Mounties. Mine just gets a little protective." He grins and nods a little. "Used to just hang out the window but I swear he's got a nose like a wolf."

"... actually, kinda." He runs his fingers through his hair. "See, he first came to Chicago on the trail of the killers of his father." He makes a circle in the air with his fingers. "And for reasons that, uh, well, we don't really talk 'bout, he stuck around, attached as a liason to the Canadian consulate. And, uh, to be my partner. And the first time I met him... yeah, anyway." He takes a drag off the cigarette one more time and flicks the butt over the edge. "If y'meet him, you'll get it. Fraser kinda... makes an impression."

[identity profile] youreafreak.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh no, back then it was all the job, you know? LIke, cop partners. Solvin' crimes, that kind of thing." He talks with his hands, broadly. "I mean, now? Now we're a thing, and... and yeah. Exclusive. But that's real new. Like, Valentine's Day new." He looks a little embarassed at that, and toes the ground. "Serious. Yeah. We're definately serious."

[identity profile] youreafreak.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Young love? Heh. Not really. He smirks. "You have no idea how much I brush my teeth. Trust me, it's cool."

[identity profile] youreafreak.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
"No way. You gimme ten minutes to air out and five to brush, and no chance." He shakes his head. "Besides, all the stuff he's licked, he probably has nothin' left on his tongue."
