Due to the fact that I am really fucking bored, I'm now holding office hours. Come by to chat if you have a question about class, your homework assignment, or if you're just really fucking bored, too.
"Oh, uh, nothing, I was just... I bumped into some people with gerianiums and stuff. They said it was for your class and it looked pretty cool." He squinted, as if trying to focus. "I was wondering if I could sign up or whatever."
"Yeah. There will be a sign up sheet for the next class and if you put your name on it you'll be in." Crowley gestured to a chair. "Hey, take a seat. We can talk about it. You're new, right? You look a little... lost. What's your name, kid?"
Charlie sunk gratefully into the chair. He felt boneless and pretty weak, but he was used to it; he put his concentration into speaking. "I'm, uh, I'm Charlie. I got Sorted earlier today -" I think "- and I've just kinda been wandering around since then. Uh, sorry - Crowley, did you say?" He rubbed his chin. He wasn't sure if what he'd just said made sense.
"Duly noted," Charlie said, managing a limp smile. "I ended up in Gryffindor, eventually, but I was nearly a Hufflepuff."
Charlie felt somewhat uncomfortable under the professor's gaze. He hadn't really thought further than asking about the class; it was now dawning on him that he really should have waited a little longer, until he felt a bit more - normal.
"So," he said, a little desperately, "what's herbology like then?"
((I kind of want him to kick it on his own terms; the miracle-cure thing annoyed me on the show. *is weird* Thanks for the offer though ;) ))
Crowley shrugged. "Nothing wrong with Hufflepuff. Some of my best friends are Hufflepuffs. Adam's in Gryffindor. You should talk to him. He'll get you settled in, let you know what you need to know. Owl him sometime. He's a helpful kid." He neglected to say what else he was.
Sitting back in his chair and pushing his sunglasses farther up his nose, Crowley said, "Herbology is, on the face of it, just the study of plants. There are normal plants like the geraniums, poisonous plants, and medicinal plants, which are often the same as the poisonous ones. There are also magical plants that will let you breathe underwater, bite your hand off, even strangle you to death if you're not careful with them. As a professor, I'm strict but fair. If you actually try in the class and pay attention, you'll pull through."
"Yeah, my mate Hurley's in Hufflepuff. This Sorting thing's a bit weird, isn't it? We had Houses at my old school, but it just went alphabetically. I was in St Ninian's." He rubbed his face again, trying to regain some feeling. It was obvious he had been on the verge of rambling. "Adam... I'll try to remember that. Um. I mean. Yeah."
With an effort he concentrated on Crowley's words. "Sounds like a pretty useful subject. Wish I'd known more about plants before the crash; I might have been a bit more..." he floundered for a moment. "Useful," he ended, lamely.
"Yeah, Adam, like the first man, Garden of Eden, all terribly ironic. He must've had a good laugh over that," said Crowley bitterly. "As for the sorting thing, it is fairly random."
He raised an eyebrow. "Crash? Like a car crash? And you'd need to know about plants? What the hell happened to you?"
((OOC: Oops, meant to tack this on to the last post. Just so you know I've never seen Lost, so I'm flying blind here. But I admire your wanting him to shake it on his own and not take the easy route.))
Charlie blinked. He must not have been following the conversation as well as he'd thought, because the Biblical references seemed completely out of the blue to him. He wondered if he would be expected to add something to this, but decided to play it safe.
"A plane crash, actually," he said, stumbling a little over the words. Concentrate. "We were on this island for God knows how long, and there was only one person there who knew much about plants. If they'd been magical... maybe not so many people would have died." He looked far away, suddenly, as if he'd forgotten where he was.
((*g* It's cool. I'm in the UK and therefore am a season behind canon, so I'm making a lot f assumptions and guesses myself.))
"Yeah. Yeah, I guess you're right." He pulled himself from whatever recollections he was experiencing with an almost physical effort.
"Well. Um, thanks for telling me about the class and stuff; I'll definately look out for that sign-up sheet thing." He pushed himself out of the chair and offered Crowley his hand, looking quite unstable on his feet. "Nice to meet you and that."
((Weirdly, I got a copy about a week before I found this community. I like it very much... Is it a stand-alone thing, or is there a sequel?))
((If you like. :D He evolved originally at neutral_omens where he's currently playing babysitter for half of Heaven, half of Hell, and a few poor humans thrown into the middle. And if you liked Good Omens and can see the slash potential between Crowley and Aziraphale, you might want to check out lower_tadfield. That's where all the GO fans hang out, post fics and art, and generally have a good time. I'm musegaarid over there.))
((Ooh, excellent! I see slash potential practically everywhere; before I even read GO, I kept on coming across Lupin/Aziraphale, so I had a vauge idea of the characters etc. If I join it'll probably be as fidrich, though. *always happy to get into new fandoms*))

Crowley looked at the man sitting in front of him with a practised eye. It didn't take much to know what was wrong.
"So what house did you end up in?"
((OOC: Crowley can rid Charlie of his withdrawal or addiction or what have you, if you're ever interested. I wouldn't do it without asking, though.))

Crowley shrugged.
"Hey, at least it's over and you survived, right?"
Well, I'd have never known. :D Just out of curiosity, are you familiar at all with Good Omens?

Crowley watched Charlie go, wondering if he'd take him up on his advice to talk to Adam, or barring that, even make it to his dormitory.
((Awesome! Nope, it's stand alone. Although Pterry and Gneil haven't ruled out a sequel if something pushes their buttons.))
