"Sounds brilliant actually." He laughed. It was like being students at the accademy all over again, mooching off of Koschei's notes. And there were so many places to explore here.

"Of course it is." Smirking, he draped his arm loosely around the Doctor's waist. "If there's a type of spell or potion that especially interests me let me know and I'll make sure to focus on it."

He snorted at that but didn't bother trying to shove the Master away. It felt nice, this intimacy.. Even if he wouldn't admit it to himself.

"I'll keep that in mind thanks"

That was a good sign, and there was no point in trying to push further in that direction in a hallway. Despite his remarks about the tables in the Great Hall, he had no intention of risking putting on a show, at least not yet.

"Our room," and didn't that feel good to say, centuries just vanished and everything so much simpler, "is down here and to the left."

"Brilliant! has everyone got these ?I mean obviously there are dormitories, but we don't seem to be headed towards one do we? It's rather dank down here." He rambles on happily with his hands in his pockets, stopping now and again to scan thINGS.

"That's another oddness. Accounts from when it was a more standard school describe the students as all staying in dormitories, but now it seems everyone has a room of their own." He reached the door at last, opening it to reveal the simplicity therein; a desk, a chair, a bed. "Of course, the castle seems to be at least somewhat sentient."

"So it's like a TARDIS then." He nodded approvingly and fell back onto the bed with a satisfied groan.

"Ohhh that's better! Feels like I haven't stretched in months." The Doctor stretched his long arms back over his head and sigh before propping himself up again. "What sort of spells have you got to show me "Any basics I should know?"

Jack already showed him how to make things float, but he keeps that to himself.

"In a primitive sense," he agreed a bit begrudgingly, sitting beside him on the bed. His room may not have been elaborate, but the bed was more than big enough for two to sleep comfortably. Or not sleep. "And you've already seen the cleansing charm. Because I actually have common sense, the first thing I'm going to teach you is a counterspell. It'll end any spell you cast, and all sorts of simple spell cast by others. The incantation is 'finite incantem."

"finite incantatem" the Doctor repeated, careful to get the pronunciation down. "Right got it. Do I need a wand?" Jack had found him one of those as well. He reached into his pocket and studied the long thin piece of wood.

"You need a wand, and a spell to stop. I'm not going to teach you anything else until I know you can cast a counterspell." He thought about which spell to use, and aimed his wand at his desk. "Accio bowl!" A bowl floated obediently over, and he rolled his eyes impatiently as it floated over. "Did I mention magic requires you to be specific?" He set the bowl down and summoned over the other, empty bowl.

"You just did." He grinned impishly and picked up one of the pretzels, biting into it. Instantly his expression changed from teasing to shock and a hand flew to cover his mouth.

"What... <What?" His eyes flickered from the bowl to the Master. "How did you- Where did you get- What is this?"

That was what he wanted. Exactly that look. The Master grinned smugly. "Magic."

The Doctor shot him a dry look as he reached for another one, still stunned. "Oh very funny. I'm being serious here! This is... It' s just like back home!"

"It helps that there's a good match in terms of appearance and texture," he said smugly. "I needed something to start with."

Oh he was being smug again. Couldn't have that.

"Come on, show me how to do it. I want to know! "This opened up so many possibilities. So many new ways to preserve old memories.

"Oh, no. Not that one. Never that one." His smile was wistful and almost sad as he reached out and stroked the line of the Doctor's jaw, trailing his fingertips down his neck. Such a lovely neck this time. "That's something you need to come back to me for."

He watches the Master's face, taking in every little nuance of his expression before replying with a smile.

"Thought you'd know by now- coming back's what I'm best at."

Part of him raged bitterly at that, but he stifled it. Too much promise in this moment; he wanted as long a memory to keep as possible before the inevitable going all to hell. He left his hand where it was, feeling the Doctor's pulse under his hand.

"Is it? I thought that was my specialty."

"Well" he conceded, tilting his head to the side and looking thoughtful. "Certainly in terms of dramatic entrances. Right, fine you win. What's my specialty then? Make it a good one."

He fought back the first thing that sprang to mind; it's true, but it's also ugly and cruel, something to use when he needed a weapon. "Your will," he says, and it's just as true. You might die, you might do mad, but you don't break."

He leaned into the Master's touch absently as he considered this. It sounded like a second thought to him which made him curious about the first but he didn't push it.

"Good thing too. I'd be awfully dull if I did."

"I'd have lost interest long ago if you were that ordinary." The reaction was good, and he traced little half-circles on the nape of the Doctor's neck. "Of course, you'd probably never have left, either."

He was quit for a moment as he leaned against the Master, staring at the bowl of pretzel like snacks.

"It wasn't you you know. It wasn't anything you could have helped."

"That's really not an improvement." But he kept as much of the bitterness from his voice as possible without shutting himself away. The responses to his initial, testing caress were promising and he longed to pull the Doctor into his lap, but he'd have had to put away his wand, which would call attention to the fact that why yes, they had been in the middle of something.

"I should have told you, I know I should have....But at the time everything was so panicked and there just wasn't time. But that doesn't change the fact that I should have contacted you. I just..." How could he explain that it hadn't been safe without it sounding like an excuse?

"The council never said why I left? Or Brax?"
