Open RP: Great Hall: It's Alive!

The circles under his eyes are more pronounced than usual today. L slips into the Great Hall, to get himself a pot of tea. Once it arrives, he sits and pauses, to wait for it to steep. It needs to be stronger than this.

He's been pushing himself on a case the past few days. It's resolved now, but it was the first real challenge he's had since moving here, so he may have dropped off the face of the earth a little. Time to emerge and make sure everyone is still alive and well.

As soon as the tea is finished steeping, that is.

Rather than put off, Maddie is now slightly excited. "There's more than one? And they're here, I'm guessing, since you asked." She shakes her head. "This place is utterly barmy, lousy with murderers, then." After a slight pause, she realizes she hasn't answered the question and may not get more information if she doesn't. "The FBI agent was a nice looking woman. The murderer looked like you, only...well, his hands..." That made her wince. She did not want to know what happened. Probably best she remain ignorant. Needed shatter all her illusions in less than a week.

"There is, they are, it is."

He clears his throat, and pours himself a cup of tea.

"And he's very dangerous, please be careful of him."

Like she really needed to be told that. "I'll bear that in mind," she deadpanned. "Dangerous covers many things, though," she points out. "And, more information, which none of you really seems forthcoming with," and Maddie will continue until she gets what she wants, come hell or high water or the police, "so, how am I supposed to know exactly how to be careful?" Let him think the information is for her 'own safety,' she didn't care. Information was information and she could put it together. She wasn't stupid, just not a lateral thinker. And, at times, even Jonathan forced that out of her.

"What sort of information is it that you believe you require? I've told the press details of the case before, I'll do so again if you want."

L doesn't mind a little bit of forthcoming, especially not about the LABB case. Better that than Kira.

Does he think she is the press? Is her cover so easily blown? Oh, surely not.

"The details, yes, but it needed be all of them, just the important ones. He told me he was planning to set a puzzle that couldn't be solved." She didn't believe such things existed. She'd been a Jonathan groupie, though she'd deny it furiously, far too long.

"In an attempt to attract my attention, he committed a series of murders meant to be 'unsolveable.' I worked with and through the FBI agent you met. We solved them and stopped him from killing himself to make himself look like one of the victims."

Ergo, the unsolveable.

Maddie frowns slightly. "Well, surely not that difficult to figure out, even if he did manage to off himself." She's seen it solved, after all, and is frankly unimpressed. "And, how does that make him especially dangerous?"

"He drugs and dismembers his victims; adults and children both; and he's keenly intelligent, motivated and angry."

L is careful of him.

Well, then. In typical Maddie-fashion, she's stepped in it.

It's also not the worst thing she's heard. "How many? How?" Details, after all are her livelihood.

"I don't know all the details. It's in my future."

Also, they're private.

Maddie pulls a face. "So, I have to find your triplet?" Round and round the reporter goes, where she stops, no one knows.

"A? If you harangue him for details and I find out about it, I'll take action against you. Pestering him for details concerning B could be more than a little detrimental to his wellbeing."

"A?" she echos. The B=murderer connection is easy. It takes only a moment or two to put together A with the information she's gathered. "That poor little boy in the sorting room?" Yes, this is still her impression of A. "Why on..." Her voice trails off. "What did...?" She shook her head. "I won't harass him!" she declares.

"Thank you. He grew up with B."

She's obviously intelligent enough to draw her own conclusions from that.

Maddie shakes her head. "What I meant," she says, trying to gather her wits again, "is that I was told to find B and he told me you looked like him. And, you're going to send me onto someone else who will tell me another tantalizing bit but not the whole story." She shakes her head again. "There's no such thing as an impossible scenario, only improbable ones," she paraphrased what Jonathan had told her often enough. "Therefore, unless you're not thinking laterally enough, he couldn't have stumped you." She assumes much.

"Ask the FBI agent."

She's lived it.

"It's at her discretion, how much she tells you."

Maddie frowns. "She wasn't forthcoming." But, that was fairly standard behavior for law enforcement with the press. She wasn't surprised. It was obvious, though, that this one across from her knew more than he was giving. It didn't help that he was ignoring her obvious compliment. How was a woman supposed ot work if she couldn't rely on her charms?

"Then I'll respect her wishes. Do you have any other questions you'd like answers to?"

The very image of politeness.

Maddie frowns. She hates being cut off, oh how she hated it. But, she'd find another way, she would.

She sighed. "A," what a horrid name, "mentioned being...trained?" How he took the question would tell her something and then she'd have a direction or three to dig.

"To take my position should I die."

Absolutely calmly.

Maddie blinked. "And why would you need replacing?" she asks before she thinks.

"Because I do important work." Obviously. "Crime rates would increase otherwise."

Maddie frowns. "Crime rates would increase?" She shakes her head. "I do know statistics. One person doesn't have that much of an influence, not globally."

"Mmm."

L sips his tea.

Maddie does not like being made fun of. Not in the least. And she's being made fun of by this freak of a boy across from her now. "So, you're just full of yourself, then."
