Open RP: Great Hall: It's Alive!

The circles under his eyes are more pronounced than usual today. L slips into the Great Hall, to get himself a pot of tea. Once it arrives, he sits and pauses, to wait for it to steep. It needs to be stronger than this.

He's been pushing himself on a case the past few days. It's resolved now, but it was the first real challenge he's had since moving here, so he may have dropped off the face of the earth a little. Time to emerge and make sure everyone is still alive and well.

As soon as the tea is finished steeping, that is.

"What sort of information is it that you believe you require? I've told the press details of the case before, I'll do so again if you want."

L doesn't mind a little bit of forthcoming, especially not about the LABB case. Better that than Kira.

"A maple tree? Those grow to quite a height, don't they?"

Worrisome.

"It's political," L tells him, explaining-and-not at the same time.

"Can I sleep in your room tonight?"

"When it begins to grow too tall, I will transplant it outside."

Of course, he's promised not to tell that it's be request.

"Exciting." Matt grins wider - if L's doing the kind of thing he can't tell Matt about, then he's getting closer to the kind of level he deserves to be working at.

"Yeah. Course you can." He reaches for L's hand, interlinking their fingers under the table. "Whenever you want."

Does he think she is the press? Is her cover so easily blown? Oh, surely not.

"The details, yes, but it needed be all of them, just the important ones. He told me he was planning to set a puzzle that couldn't be solved." She didn't believe such things existed. She'd been a Jonathan groupie, though she'd deny it furiously, far too long.

"In an attempt to attract my attention, he committed a series of murders meant to be 'unsolveable.' I worked with and through the FBI agent you met. We solved them and stopped him from killing himself to make himself look like one of the victims."

Ergo, the unsolveable.

Maddie frowns slightly. "Well, surely not that difficult to figure out, even if he did manage to off himself." She's seen it solved, after all, and is frankly unimpressed. "And, how does that make him especially dangerous?"

"Look what the cat dragged in," I say as I sit across from L. "Working?" That much is obvious, but I told Matt I'd make an effort, so this is me, making an effort.

"He drugs and dismembers his victims; adults and children both; and he's keenly intelligent, motivated and angry."

L is careful of him.

"Turlough doesn't mind another tree being planted?"

He seems to have gotten better about A's gardening exploits.

"Don't let me fall asleep on top of you. I may be unconscious for a while."

L pushes himself, and eventually gets pushed back.

"He has told me where I should plant it."

Which is true enough.

Well, then. In typical Maddie-fashion, she's stepped in it.

It's also not the worst thing she's heard. "How many? How?" Details, after all are her livelihood.

"I wouldn't mind." Matt looks at him, then. "Wait. You haven't slept yet?"

"Yes. Tea?"

It's finally stronger.

"I don't know all the details. It's in my future."

Not my favorite thing, but, "Yeah, thanks." I frown at the table a moment. "How long? You look like you've been up a week, at least."

"That's good."

L changes the topic.

"How are the cats?"

"No. I'm hungry."

And he wants tea.

Maddie pulls a face. "So, I have to find your triplet?" Round and round the reporter goes, where she stops, no one knows.

"A little less than that. Five and a half days." L just used to do this often enough that it's left some permanent fingerprints on him. The eyes, the complexion.

"Nothing has gone wrong while I was busy?"

"A? If you harangue him for details and I find out about it, I'll take action against you. Pestering him for details concerning B could be more than a little detrimental to his wellbeing."

"Okay. Fair enough."

It makes more sense than 'I've been awake for three days, I want to go flying'.

"You want cakes, or something proper?"

I shrug. "Took A to Diagon Alley. He made the trip without freaking. Definite improvement. He's more apt to get angry when people look down on the skills he's developing than cower now." I smile a little. "That is reassuring. He also doesn't collapse on himself when corrected. Or he didn't when I did."

I look at his face a little closer. "You done, then?"
