::Open RP - A's Garden::

It was a lovely day, really.

Even if the weather had been less than ideal, A would have gone to the garden. The plants needed to be tended, after all, and right now he's kneeling by the catnip bed, pulling out the few weeds that have dared to encroach on his territories.

Now that he has a computer with an internet connection, A is Discovering music, and he's singing, very badly, as he weeds.

"Everyday seems a little longer
Every way love's a little stronger
Come what may
Do you ever long for, true love from me
"

He can't carry a tune, but there's an odd hiccuping tone to his voice that's a clear attempt to mimic Buddy Holly.

She was content to stand. "I'd already upset him by saying B looked something like L. It looked like he'd recovered, but then I let him know... what you told me. What happened to L - or what's going to happen - during the Kira case."

Matt clears it anyway, before sitting down on the bed. Koopa's busy investigating Naomi's feet.

"Ah. That... kinda makes sense." He reaches to pull out a cigarette. "A's a little bit - devoted? - to L."

[identity profile] misoramassacre.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'd noticed," said Naomi, mostly devoid of sarcasm.

"His... name. Is, or was, he another candidate?"

[identity profile] gamerspy.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"He was the first attempt at setting up a successor," Matt confirms. "The training was a lot harsher than what the later generations went through. He died before L did, though, so..."

He shrugs and lights his cigarette. "Want one?"

[identity profile] misoramassacre.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"He died?"

It wasn't so much surprise (there was certainly precedent, after all) as a certain sickness at the idea. He wasn't quite as young as the boy she hadn't shot, or as the girl B killed in Los Angeles (And wouldn't dying as a substitute be a horrible way for a child that age to go, so brazen, so brazen) but still, the thought of it...

"Oh... no thanks."

[identity profile] gamerspy.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah." Matt isn't going to go into specifics. "But... the training, you know - they kind of fucked him up before that even happened. If he knows it was Light," and if he doesn't, it's not going to take him long to find out, "then I almost feel sorry for the mass-murdering little fuck."

He thinks of A positioning B's arms on the pieces of board, and B's maimed hands.

[identity profile] misoramassacre.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"He knows."

She didn't know the particulars of that but she knew A had seen B begging, that he'd "struck back" as Jezz had put it, and that... "B was missing two fingers when I saw him in the Sorting Room. That was...?"

[identity profile] gamerspy.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Matt whistles lowly. Wow. Light's fucked.

"Yeah. That was A. You can sit, you know," he adds. "I feel like I should offer tea or something, but I don't drink it. And you don't really seem like a raw-sugar-cube sort of person."

He tries to keep some around.

[identity profile] misoramassacre.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"No, not really. It's fine." She sat in the cleared chair, hard put to muster any pity for Light. "It's still hard to believe the state of this place."

She wondered privately if they even took House points for stabbings.

[identity profile] gamerspy.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"You mean, like, people running around attacking each other without any kind of official consequence?" He exhales a long plume of smoke. "It's pretty ridiculous."

[identity profile] misoramassacre.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"Like that." After all for A to strike back B had to have struck first. L had mentioned it, too, though leaving out names. "It seems to have rules completely of its own, as if it's some private country. Kira might not exist here but the LABB case does - I checked - and he's not exactly being extradited, is he? I'm familiar with the idea of escape-friendly countries but this is..."

[identity profile] gamerspy.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's fucked. The only way I've been able to figure it is that the wizarding world is isolated from the Muggle world, and since the influx of people from different realities and worlds and shit, Hogwarts has become isolated from the rest of wizarding society. Something like that. I mean, they have a police-type system."

He shifts on the bed as Koopa comes to curl up beside him.

"The smartest thing to do would probably be to leave."

[identity profile] misoramassacre.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It probably was, when it was all laid out, but - "You're still here."

[identity profile] gamerspy.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"L's here."

Simple as that, really.

[identity profile] misoramassacre.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"I see."

For her it wasn't so much a matter of something here as not much to compete out there. She'd said once that with Raye gone she had nothing to lose, and that remained largely true.

And knowing what she did she couldn't help but speculate if one day she might find Raye standing, befuddled, in the Sorting Room. Low chances of that, to be sure, but there had already been clusters as with L and his associates, the Yagamis father and son...

[identity profile] gamerspy.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"And - if he's going to die, there's a chance he might wind up back here." Matt shrugs. He's oblivious to how closely he's mirroring Naomi's thoughts, obviously, but she doesn't seem particularly happy.

"You worked together, right?"

[identity profile] misoramassacre.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
So mirrored that for a moment she was unreasonably uncertain as to whether he meant L or Raye.

"On the one case, yes."

[identity profile] gamerspy.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"LABB?"

Matt didn't follow it, not really. He was making a point of it at the time; which was dumb, considering no one cared.

"I don't know much about it."

[identity profile] misoramassacre.livejournal.com 2008-06-06 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes. Did you want to know?"

Naomi had had cause to remember it anew over the past weeks.

[identity profile] gamerspy.livejournal.com 2008-06-06 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah. I've - got some idea of what he's capable of, but..."

He shrugs.

[identity profile] misoramassacre.livejournal.com 2008-06-06 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"What idea do you have already? About that case?"

She wouldn't want to assume too much, let alone talk down to him ("It stands for Los Angeles BB Murder Cases. And it involved me, and L, and B. And people died").

[identity profile] gamerspy.livejournal.com 2008-06-06 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"I know barely anything," Matt admits, shrugging. "I was going through a Thing at the time. But I know B impersonated L. If L was involved, there must've been a pretty high body count - unless it was just to contain B? And I know dolls were involved somehow."

He could easily figure out more, if he tried, but he'd rather just hear the truth of it from Naomi.

[identity profile] misoramassacre.livejournal.com 2008-06-06 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"There were three murders," Naomi began, and proceeded to explain about the setup with the wara ningyo, nails, and thumbturn locks, the excessive cleaning of each scene, the obscured "clues," etc., and how she'd been enlisted, gone to Insist Street, and found B under the bed.

"He was calling himself Rue Ryuzaki at the time."

[identity profile] gamerspy.livejournal.com 2008-06-06 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"... that's a bit creepy," Matt says. To B using 'Ryuzaki'; hiding under beds and wiping lightbulb sockets aren't as using L's alias.

Well. Maybe the hiding under beds part. Matt shudders, and lights another cigarette as soon as he finishes the first.

"How did he explain that? Just say he was investigating?"

[identity profile] misoramassacre.livejournal.com 2008-06-06 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"He said he was hired by the victim's family. In fact, it turned out he'd gotten himself hired by all three families. How he managed that I'm still not sure."

She explained then how in retrospect he had impersonated L, though one would only be aware of this if they'd seen the real one - the posture, the sitting position, the preoccupation with sweets. Then the "uncovering" of the clues he'd planted, the random attack, etc. All up to the day they'd been waiting in apartments nine floors apart. Then how he'd let slip the knowledge she knew capoeira, and how that had fit in to send her running down nine flights of stairs to 404 -

"Then I put him out and arrested him."
